This is all about what storyline of any game stands out of any other to you.

For me i would have to say resistance's background and killzone's background they are both my favorite games and that really stand out to me.

O and of course silent hill 2.

Xenogears. An amazingly deep game with well thought-out characters and a storyline with fantastic twists and turns. It the only game thats plotline is to kill god, because god is a 10,000 year old planet destroying ship that is using humans as spare parts to fix itself.

Killing gods is far from a unique storyline.

I've got 4- Fallout, Half Life 2, God of War, and GTA IV.

For some reason, I feel like I've posted this before...

EDIT: Do I see Saints Row mentioned? Whaa?

I think he meant that this particular definition of "god" was unique.

But anyways, for story, I could be really pretentious and say Shadow of the Colossus, since there was very little story, and what little actually occurred turned out really open-ended. But then the raging little Final Fantasy Tactics fanboy in me starts a fuss, so I have to default to Tactics.

I'd have to say Bioshock, although it may be just because the story was so beautifully presented.

I don't care what people say, I love the MGS storyline.

God of War has a superb one also and so does Okami.

Oh, and you can't go wrong with the simplicity of Pokemon :) Just catch 'em all!

Bioshock cause no main characters have an actual background spanning before rapture other than Andrew Ryans. I also like portal because of how open ended it is and u can make whatever u want of it. I like FFX Because every aspect of the story seems thought through really well and all the main characters have there own story and there all unique the game itself not that good though.

My favourite has to be the Mass Effect plot line; so much depth, and the game actually releases information with perfect pacing.

Final Fantasy 6. An amazing story with a lot of depth and emotion to the characters. Every protagonist had a purpose in the story that fit in so well, and the villain was simple and yet effective enough to be brilliantly crafted into a story that just sucked me in. Every character had a piece of the plot puzzle making them worth something to the game, and the story packed some major twists that made it all the more intriguing. One of my all time favorite stories along side chrono trigger. Chrono Trigger does not need explaining, it's too great for words.

I am currently playing mass effect, hope the praise it has gotten is justified, just gonna have to see for myself.

Chrono Cross. The storyline continually flips upside down, backwards, and inside out just when you think it can't possibly happen again. True, none of the characters get much development except for the big three, but that's what happens when you have 52 of them. At least they all had a background and reasons for being in your party. Still a great story, nonetheless.

I personally adore the Blood Omen/Soul Reaver story line, it is just so well crafted and keeps you hooked wanting to dig deeper into the fantasy world until you finally get to the "edge of the coin".

Also I have never played the story missions as intently as I did with GTAIV. I really enjoyed it and think it has one of the best stories in any game of recent years.

The most compelling storyline I've played in a game is Deus Ex. It is deep and perplexing. It's as full of twists as a Hitchcock movie. The best part is, you get to provide some of the plot twists youself by the actions and dialog lines you choose. The story kept me going even when I was so frustrated with the puzzles I wanted to quit.

The best presented story in a game has to be Dark Forces: Jedi Knight. Live action cutscenes complete with special effects! It was sure a wow factor back when the game came out. Few games back then did that.
