So tell me Escapist(escapies?), what would be a game you love that barely anyone would know of. I want to play a brand new experience aside from the big blockbuster hits. List and reason would be nice

Edit: I am a VERY open person when it comes to Video Games, I have played literally every genre.

Look up Mount and blade: Warband.

One of my all-time favorites. Made by two people, is what really surprised me, though.

Oh, theres a demo too

Disciples 1 and 2. It's high fantasy turn based strategy. They are excellent games but hardly anyone has ever heard of them. They're on GOG for $5-$10.

Riot Police by Activision. Kinda sorta strategy game where you control, you guessed it; Riot Police to suppress, again, you guessed it; Riots! It was pretty simple, a few interesting missions, limited selection of units and such, but damn...it was pretty funny when you got to break up peace protests and stop soccer riots and labor strikes.

"Anti war protesters are attacking city hall!"

Hehehe, get the tear gas and mounted units...

I feel like Tiberian Sun's dropped off the map.

And while a lot of people do play it, I -hate- it when WoW players have -no- idea the RTS Warcraft series exists, and there are far too many of those people.

OH!!! Kirby and the Crystal Shards, in my opinion, was the -best- of the Kirby games, but it's old, so yeah, not too many people know of it.

G- Nome. It's a game I had on the first family computer my mum bought. It's about a hundred years old (not really, but still probably 12 years?), but I hunted it down and downloaded it again and it's still fun as hell. It's a game where you control mech type robots, and it's got a fantastic storyline too. I think you can only download it off special sites though.

Would help to know what systems you have...let's see...

Dreamcast:
Looney Tunes Space Race: Pretty much a Mario Kart game, but the Looney Tunes style really shines through, especially with the cel-shaded style and weapons like the Extendable Boxing Glove, Portable Hole, Thundercloud-in-a-Can, and of course falling Anvils. Great four-player fun, even if you lose.
Starlancer: Imagine if Ace Combat was set in space, and this is what you'll get. Admittedly, the learning curve is absurdly steep, but the sheer amount of control you have piloting your ship is great. Also a great atmosphere, with a nice HUD, plenty of comm chatter, and a nice little story about your rise through the ranks.

PS2:
007: Everything or Nothing: Cover-based third-person shooter, but my sibling and I still have a lot of fun with this game, admittedly because the co-op can be crazy fun...and funny. One time we decided to take out the first guard in one level by chucking seashells at him. And the stealth sections are a bit difficult due to the one-stick-movement-scheme, but getting through them just made us feel even more awesome.

Revenant

Seriously, does anybody remember that game? Came out back in 1999, from Eidos. It was an action RPG from back in the Diablo-clone era, but I loved this one. The combat was great...you could move around with the mouse or keyboard, but you could use the keyboard to do different types of attacks, and could make combos. Plus, the magic system is similar to Magicka, where you combined different talismans to create different spells (But FYF Magicka, Revenant came out over a decade ago). It had a great story (for the time), great graphics (for the time), great cutscenes (for the time).

I would love a remake.

Look it up... I'm going to go see if I can find it on GOG.

edit - Thinking about it now, I want to take back the part about Diablo-clone. This was actually pre-Diablo-clone era. This is from the glory days when isometric 2d RPGs were the shit, right BEFORE they all turned into Diablo-clones.

Planetside would have to be mine. Not many people are aware of its existance.

Army Men RTS.

It's an RTS where you play as the green plastic soldiers from your backyard trying to get into the house and stop the new tan coloured ruler.
Good humour, good mechanics to be as old as it is, excellent fun.

Oh, and if you haven't tried Mini Ninjas yet, do it.

Most people haven't heard of a game called Folklore. I see it in the used section of my Gamestop sometimes, but it seems to be an obscure-ish game. I haven't finished it yet because I'm stuck on a difficult part, but there's a very intriguing storyline from what I've seen so far (It seems to be about a young girl with a dead mother and a journalist who both receive a call telling them to come to an old ghost town, where they find the few reclusive weirdos who live there. One local girl's plight interests them, so they move through various planes of the 'Other Side' to uncover the secrets of both girl's dead mothers), the gameplay is pretty nice (It mostly involves killing strange creatures and absorbing their 'Id' so that you can use their powers to kill other creatures. The bigger they are, the more specific an attack you need to kill them.) It isn't a perfect game, but I have fun with it.

Glitch in the System was a pretty fun time. Not terribly unique but it made me lol.

Also: Beyond Good and Evil. It certainly isn't as obscure as some of the other stuff in this thread, but still that game is way under-appreciated and under-played.
