Get your terminology straight. Music with screaming in it != screamo, same way music with saxophones in it != jazz. Hell, Dave Grohl and Matt Bellamy scream sometimes. Screamo is a subset of hardcore punk. Mastodon and Opeth are not hardcore punk in any way.

But I hear ya, I'm not big on the screaming/growling thing. I like it, but I don't like the music that usually goes with it.

you do make a valid point, however, its easy enough to justify that I was referring to the technique of screaming during the songs. genres are fairly convuluted as it is, so correcting somebody for something so ambigous, is borderline troll. but yeah, no offence taken. I suppose some would say I'm trolling by replying like this as well :/
