Now, by "guilty pleasure," I mean a game that most people didn't like, but you did. Mine is definately Wet. Sure, it was imminsely repetitive and had no real story, but I really enjoyed it.

As a secondary question, what game did you not really like, yet received a lot of praise? For me-- an RPG fan, mind you-- it is Chrono Trigger, perhaps the most acclaimed RPG of all time. I just never got what was so great about it. I didn't like any of the characters or plot, so most of what I love in RPGs was gone, and I did not see what set it apart from any other RPG, gameplay-wise, other than removing random-encounters, and having dofferent attacks for different parties.

So, what are yours?

My guilty gaming pleasure is Farcry 2. It has so many problems (like retarded AI and long, long drives) but I can't help but enjoy it. The whole second act is just great.

And I don't like CoD or Modern Warfare at all, not since the second of third one but you'll probably hear a lot of that here.

Would have to be Final Fantasy 13. I recognise many of it's faults, yet I didn't mind them at all. Maybe I was just enamoured with the visuals, or maybe the characters I did enjoy I really enjoyed, or maybe it's something else. any which way it is, I liked it.

For me, it would have to be Mirror's Edge. It seems that everyone complains that the control don't work, but I find them pretty great, and it does stay fun to jump from building to building.

As for a game I don't like, I would have to say Modern Warfare 3. I watched a friend of mine play through the game, and found it quite silly. Then we got to the ending, and I found it very disturbing. I just cant think of what demographic would find that cool.

I dunno if there's any games I'm exactly ashamed of. I know that a lot of people hate Oblivion, but then just as many people love it, so it's hardly something scandalous or cred-losing.

Maybe Sonic Adventure 2: Battle? Most seem to consider it part of Sonic's post-3D downfall, but it's actually the reason I like Sonic.

I've never heard of anyone hating the Elder Scrolls...

I wouldn't call it a guilty pleasure, because that's something that you want to do at the time but feel really bad about afterwards (traditionally eating a litre of ice cream), but I don't have that with any games. That's to say, I'm not ashamed of liking anything that I do like.
But as for games that I feel are underrated, I would have to begin with Gothic 2, which did what the Elder Scrolls set out to do, although better and sooner than the Elder Scrolls games accomplished it. And Gothic 1 wasn't too bad either. But those games came from a German company and so it didn't generate as much support in the West.
And so it should come as no surprise to you then, that the answer to your second question is the Elder Scrolls games. Now, admittedly I've only played Morrowind and what I've played of Oblivion hasn't been much better. So yeah, everyone likes them, but I don't.
That about sums it up.

Harvest Moon and its more RPG version Rune Factory. I just love those games for the off periods when I am done with shooting people, and they tend to give you enough to do to last you a long while.

Also, the sims social, just because i enjoy being a dick to my friends, and if you have a problem with that, i'll kick your bin over.

My "guilty" pleasure game would have to be Too Human, sure it had huge bugs and Yahtzee to date has never had more fun since reviewing the game, not to mention the punishment of being slowly dragged away when you died, which you would... multiple times.

Game I love to hate would have to be anything that's been released with WOTC on the cover somewhere really. I still haven't forgiven them for the Magic incident almost twenty years ago.

Shadow The Hedgehog would have to be mine. I know a lot of people kept complaining about it being Sonic with guns, but that just added to the appeal for me.

I went back to Mabinogi. Again. Mainly after seeing this trailer and then hitting nostalgia.
YES, I LIKE THIS CASHCOW OF A GAME!!!
Ah, that felt better...
Oh God, this game...I played it religiously in 2008 soon after it first came out. It definitely stole a lot of my money from me. Good times, but I stopped playing seriously halfway through 2009. Still have a lot of online buddies from there I talk to though.

As for myself...I guess you could call Dragon Age 2 a guilty pleasure considering how many people on the internet seemed to hate what it did to the Dragon Age formula.

My answer to your second question would be the Disgaea series. I simply don't like the ridiculous amounts of grinding required to make progress in the games. That's not to say I didn't have fun with them; I just got bored.

Any and all "Warriors" games. Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, DW Gundam, Orochi, even the Kessen games. I've played them all and will continue to, if only for the easy achievements.
