The only anime I could think of that disappointed me was probably Master of Martial Hearts.
Why? Because, it had some cheery school girl upbeat opening, but the whole story of the anime was messed up.
I was originally gonna watch it for the fan service, but then it pulled me in with how screwed up and evil the story was.
The anime is basically about revenge, and in the end, everyone except for the one girl dies

So that is the question.

For me it was seeing the last 5 episodes of High-School of the Dead. I weep at the lost potential turned to blatant fanservice. I could not understand why people were hard on it the first 6 episodes were splendid. Good action somewhat thought provoking (not deep thought but still). Then that dang bullet broke the laws of physics, a bullet travailing several hundred feet/second passing preforming stunts with breast physics. I lost all interest in the show after that. A few other scenes drove me farther away, but that one stab my science side in the heart.

I liked the drama, the decisions about who to follow, whether or not to save the child at the risk of the group. but the dang fanservice. I like a little fanservice if sprinkled in now and then. If it has a good plot to the episode I will enjoy it. In other words, I like the OVA of Full Metal Panic: TSR. It had a good (even if a bit cheesy) story to it, it was not over done on the unnecessary partial nudity (I like story more, but the unnecessary partial nudity was only 1.5 min at the start of the episode and was in place of the intro sequence), and it was an OVA, part of the series but separate at the same time. I did not have to watch to gain insight on the main story.

So that is it my greatest disappointment was High-School of the Dead. Great potential gone like the sand of time.
I think the show ended fine, but that one episode was rather embaressing.

The fact that almost every romance show has to have short skirts, panty shots, and jiggly breasts.

Calm down, calm down i know that isn't all of them. Kanon, Gosick and Maid Sama come to mind readily as really good romance oriented one that were actually tasteful.

Kaze no stigma pissed me off as the series dragged on the main girl constantly had her skirt and topped ripped off.

It's like the writers think a guy can't like a good romance with tits hanging out or 14 year old fucking girls having there panties flashed on screen every five seconds. It annoys me that for every Kanon there is about sixty We without wings.

However, that is not what disappoints me the most about anime.

It's the fact that when i say i like anime everyone instantly defaults to porn, and i have to try and explain anime is just a quick way of saying non English cartoons(ultimately).

It's trying to tell people that the above complaint doesn't apply to every god damn show under the title anime because anime isn't a genre, it's a thing.

One might say "but Kagim! That's not anime's fault! That's society!" To which I respond "When 50% of something fits into the stereotype, it stops being society and starts being an accurate description"

... I'm gonna go watch Letter Bee on Crunchy roll for awhile...

Generally when an anime isn't as good as the manga or ends on a note that the series doesn't build up to.

Claymore comes to mind as a prime example of this.

Also whenever fan service is a major element in an anime that otherwise has potential in its story. Leave the strong fan service to the ecchi and hentai genera please. Seriously, strong fan service does not mix well with many plots but is just thrown in to please the otaku. Gar I wish they didn't spend money on the crap.

A good example of this are the To aru Majutsu no Index and Railgun series.

There are plenty of otherwise good anime that I would be happy to show others to get them into anime but otherwise can't because of it.

I hate oversexualization. I feel like as a guy I am a disappointment in saying this but I don't really care. In certain anime/manga the just use sex to grab peoples attention, but in the end it is just kind of thrown in there as filler and a carrot. I prefer it when it is integrated in to the story if it is used at all. A fantastic example of this is Eden: It's an Endless World (which is one of the best manga I have ever read but not for the faint of heart) where it, while not completely necessary helps set the tone of certain interactions or the overall feel of the setting. Same feeling for excessive violence (same example too).

ok im kinda weird i think that there are too many animes that end depressingly(same with manga)i mean i just watched elfin lied and fate stay night both could have ended better and hell fate stay night could of had a HAPPY ending but it didnt. dont get me wrong i love anime that have you know a meaningful reason why half the cast dies as well as a main character but i mean wtf for every one that gives a good ending (whether through meaningful sacrifice or a happy ending) there one were they basically say fuck all to every thing and just end it with no real closure. I want fucking closure DAMIT!
Elfen lied got cut off. i was very disappointed, considering i read the entire manga before-hand.

also, claymore, the way they ruined the chance to continue with the real story is just borderline depressing. claymore is one of my favourite anime series of all time, and the only reason it's not THE favourite above all others is that they destroyed the chance of the proper continuation ever happening.

berserk may come under a similar category.

read the mangas, read the mangas, any show based off a manga is almost going to be loaded full of stuff that is just fluff. do not like it? try the manga. nw there are shows that buck the trend like fma when they just said bleep the manga lets do our own thing and it was a solid show thru and thru.

but all the things people are complaining about or most of them are filler, stuff made up to fill time to let the manga get a lead and cover gaps n the manga schedule.

Western resistance to foreign animation. The term "anime" shouldn't exist, it should all be just "animation" with possible specifics such as "eastern animation" or "Japanese animation." The term chops up the field of animation more then it needs to and is a loaded term at the moment.

The 2nd half of the original Fullmetal Alchemist Anime.
The plot was awful imo. The manga/Brotherhood were 6 times better.

Dude I know how you feel

That was mine thought on hotd for the first part and then it just got lost in fanservice.

Still enjoyed it for teh lulz though.

I saw the OVA though (well half of it anyway), I had to stop because I just can not stand pointless nudity. If there is a reason for it fine I will call it art, but when they do that to my physics I rolled my eyes and gave up for good on the series.

I admit, it was a little funny and good when they stopped the fanservice and got back to the story but I still feel betrayed. Mostly because of this thread I started http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.232178-Poll-Highschool-of-the-Dead-H-O-T-D .

It was months ago but I still feel badly for going all 'fanboy' show I had not finished yet and gave me warning signs that it would be full of fanservice at some point. I feel betrayed and even after almost a year after watching the last episode, I still feel more then a bit of resentment over the studios failing. Well I will end this rant of mine, Thank you for taking the time to read it.
lol the ova was pure fan service, I enjoyed it for teh lulz and the whole series doesnt really have much nudity(like I think there were only 3 times they actually showed bare breasts) and the ova didnt have that tbh only high school girls in skin tight bikinis.

I let it all slide cuz the maker of hotd drew hentais from wut I heard. Also the dub for it was really good, better than I expected.

I got some good animes that balance fan service and plot nicely if you're interested.

-Yosuga no Sora. Beautiful OST (for the anime anyway) but the story for 3 of the 4 arcs were very much lackluster, if not laughable. Sora Arc was pretty okay though. If anything, the story for Sora's arc should've just taken the entire show, because everything else was just a joke.

-Infinite Stratos. Charlotte's Arc had a great story behind it, and if they'd based an entire show around that (with many edits as to how it happened, of course) then it could've been better.

-Seitokai no Ichizon. Started out as a hilarious comedy, but in Studio Deen fashion, the comedy died out after ep 6.

-Umineko. Studio Deen. Guess how well they adapted this one.
LOL my friend cant stop talking about yosuga no sora and by the sora arc do you mean his actual sister? Cuz everyone tells me that arc was crap (well basically all the arcs are stupid)

Yeah I agree with infinite stratos, it was a cute anime with cool looking mechs but charlotte made it cool and wished there was more of her. Still cant wait for season 2 and hopefully more screen time for her.

And I loved seitokai no ichizon for the sole reason that the main guy WANTED a harem and took charge.

That there's also so much nothing going on. For example, in DBZ one fight could take 10-15 episodes and all of the fighting would only makeup maybe two episodes.

The fact that people consider Elfin Lied to be a good series.

I haven't read the Manga, so I can't say if it gets better, but the fact that little kids beat a puppy to death because someone was different. This was taken place when there was no implied government brainwashing, these were normal, everyday bullys, not insane psychopaths, bullys, beating a puppy, to death, because someone, was different. I am sorry to add so many commas but my god, I can't think of one scene so forced. I can't sympathy because of how unrealistic that scene was. Little kids, normal little non-brainwash non-insane completely normal kids. Would never ever beat to death a puppy. Elfin Lied as a TV show reminds me more of glorified blood porn, that has the emotional depth of metalocalypes but still attempts to take itself seriously. Which makes me rage so hard.

Seriously, how Immature of a author can you be. Ok so we have this complete psychopath with the powers to kill pretty much everybody, and to make you symphatize with her were going to make her seem innocent and lovable. How do we do this? LETS GIVE HER FUCKING CAT AMNESIA, everybody love kittens, hell we can throw fan service in ad the same time, those horns look like cat ears, thats a fetish right.

THIS is BRILLIANT. We can literally pander to almost every crowd. We have pointless titty shots for the hentai fans, overly bloody scenes for the mindless br00tal crowd, Nekos for the OMG ITS SO KAWAII crowd and shallow attempts at depth for the people who can fall for that.

can anyone say kamina?
As in School Rumble, perhaps? That show had a guy named Kamina who was in "love" with some girl named Tenma. And they were both retards with a love triangle that had a vertex of madness.

50 EPISODES! 50 EPISODES AND NOTHING REALLY HAPPENS! YOU DON'T MAKE A PLOT AND JUST END IT LIKE THAT!
