What is your honest opinion on console flamewars?

To me, console wars are started by trolls who want attention. But hell is it fun to see unfold and laugh at the troll doing it. Its so friggen funny to see someone on the internet, start an argument about something due to being a completely retarded fanboy.
Another reason is stated in JonCJG's Its a Wonderful Live series on youtube- They spent so much money on the console, didn't like it, but instead of getting their money back, they go online to brag about it, trying to justify their product.
In any case, flamewars are never going to go away. They seem to be rarer nowadays but their still there.

I HATE it! There is no better or worse console/gaming platform. It is whichever one you either chose through financial decisions or influences from friends and family... I DON'T care which ones hardware is better... they are there for gaming and that is it!
Its pretty fun seeing xbox fanboy rage when i tell them the PS3 is better. But really i think for the majority of people the best console is either the one most of your friends are playing on, or if your foreveralone the one with your favourite exclusives. So basically it actually has nothing to do with the console for most people. I.E wtf are you guys arguing about?

I think they're hilarious to read about, because almost every single participant is a flaming fanboy of (put flamed about console here) and will call their console a better creation than life itself. Instead of enjoying what they got, they must all-out scream that whatever shit, be it their console or game, is better than yours, and that you're lower than them for merely that reason.
To break it all down, it's all plain silly, really. I'm an All-Console All-Star, so I really don't see the point of the wars, other than to make ragers feel more important (when they're really not, and yet they know it.)

I think the whole thing is meaningless. I really couldn't care less what console other people choose, I'm happy with my setup.

im a PC gamer mostly i only have a PS3 because there are some exclusives i wanted for it and i wanted to play some games with my brother that didnt pan out though cause there are no real multiplayer games for consoles thease days at least the second controller is useful for when the other runs out of batteries
ive played some of my friends X-box games and they were sortta dull and the controller hurt my hand and the devlopers to the controller scheams stupid and there is never an option to change them

I find it rather frustrating, really. I have a friend who's an extreme ninty fan to the point that they refuse to buy a 360 or PS3 because it would be disloyal. They get annoyed when I suggest the other consoles have a number of extremely good games their missing out on.
There's nothing wrong with preferring one console, or believing that one company does a better job. But people shouldn't let that limit them, nor flame others for liking the consoles which rival those made by their favourite company.

I see it a waste of a time. The whole Nintendo Vs Sony vs Microsoft vs PC is hilarious if you need a laugh, annoying otherwise.
I personally own a PS3, a (dust collecting) Wii, a very old PC while debating if I should get a new one, and my Gamecube...which I play more than my Wii XD (Also a DS Lite, those are the my 'current gen' /active consoles) The only things I don't like about the 360 is the online fee (If it was a Pay as you Play system, I would be happy since I don't go online so much) and the controller (it doesn't seem to want to fit nicely in my hand, making it uncomfortable. If I could wire my PS3/GC controller to it, problem solved). Also, can someone confirm to me that the RRoD has been fixed? Or was that just the older models?

What I find really stupid is how they compare such stupid things like graphics. "the ps3 graphics are 1000000000000000x better then teh xboxes". Whenever I look at pictures comparing the two, all I see is a minor brightness difference, which I can fix with a couple clicks of my remote, which I won't even do because such a minor visual change has almost zero effect on gameplay.

We're all gamers, I think that we all share a common interest, and the platform we choose to play on... yes the experience can be different from one to the other, but really it's not relevant and not everyone can afford to drop a couple thousand bucks on an excellent gaming rig. I think that the console makes gaming more accessible, and to somebody starting out, like myself gaming in my thrities, it was a little more approachable."

I don't think you can honestly compare 2 consoles without owning both of them. Playing xbox for 600 hours and playing the ps3 for 3 doesn't really give you an adequate overview what it's about. Of course you're going to like the xbox more, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I don't see any reason to resent the ps3 because of it. It makes more sense to be indifferent towards it and people's opinions on it because it has nothing to do with you.
If on the other hand you own an xbox and a wii, and you've literally struggled to get maybe 50 hours of gameplay out of the wii while you can easily clock that many into one game on the xbox, then you can subjectively say "I think the wii is a piece of shit" because a) you've had enough time with it to come to this conclusion firsthand and b) you spent money on the damn thing, so if you're unsatisfied with your purchase then the wii has literally taken something away from you. Still, I don't see any reason why you would care about what other people think of the wii because that has nothing to do with you either.
