I feel they are like other english speaking western people, only with different accents and a lot more high fructose corn syrup. Also worse chocolate.

I don't really rely on stereotypes to define people.

For example, my dad is from a small fishing village in the north of England. He said that when he was young, he was told that anyone not from their village was a foreigner, and not to be trusted. And yes that included people from the village two miles down the road.

I don't want to be glaring at other villages! I want to be all global thinking and so forth.

Weird thing for me though. On TV, I can clearly hear the difference between the various American accents, even when they aren't exagerated or anything. In person, all Americans sound the same to me. I've met people from all over the states. I don't understand why my ears have decided they all have the same voice.

Thats because its all a conspiracy, America is actually a small island off the coast of Cornwall consisting of about 50 people and a fantastic cgi studio and a state of the art cosmetics lab. You are the victim of a terrible joke!
You're wrong thats ridiculous why would we set up there when theres a perfectly good secret island near Newcastle to set up on?

I believe the average american has 2 heads, one of which is a bald eagle, has guns for arms, lives on a diet of crude oil and has the American flag tattooed over every inch of their body at birth. Srsly...

Wears a cap backwards attends some useless course at college, has thought about joining the marines. Very Patriotic and very ignorent to the outside world. That's pretty much what I think of when Americans are brought up. That's just how I envision them, I know alot of them aren't like that, but has anyone ever seen NBC? That program plays at night here and I swear every person that they interview is a walking stereotype.

Fat, loud, wearing a cowboy hat, waving the american flag ontop of a truck, holding a bible under arm and shoveling burgers into his mouth with the rest of it while reciting the anthem and stomping on a 3rd world black person.

In reality I dont know any Americans outside of the internet but you seem an alright lot, theres arseholes and morons in every corner of the globe yours just may get more media coverage than others.

Upstanding citizens individually I'm sure. A horrible consumerist mess which has a need to stick its big red-white-and-blue nose into everyone else's business as a whole.

As you may well know england is about one street, we are all called or know someone called john smith and we pass the queen every day in our stagecoach before sinking our awfully dentisted teeth into tea and scones what what!.... oh and we all wear bowler hats
Man, I love different stereotypes sometimes, I think of football hooligans, and my horrifying chav family over in England, as stereotypical English people.

It's all based on experience, I guess.

For me, as an Australian I find the outback bush tucker crocodile hunter stereotype hilarious, considering Australia is one of the most urbanised countries in the world. I think it's something like 90% of our population live in our capital cities.

Country Australia: Don't ever go there. It doesn't exist.

I believe the average American to be a human being, and as being a human being, have faults.
But I wouldn't dare stereotype these faults throughout an entire community, let alone an entire country.
Me thinks this thread won't last long once the stereotyping and flame-wars start.
But who knows, people might remain civil and use common-sense, this is The Escapists after all...
My god, this. I swear, make a book or something. I wish there was more intelligent Insight like this on the internet now'a days.

I agree, although the french stereotype is a thing of beauty, beret, french bread, a terrible thin moustache, hell practicllly a mime artist who has just come from eating some poor horse/frog/snail and who runs away a lot

Sadly enough, I know someone who has done something similar, got bit the first time, and then did it again a few years later. Wasn't in the Navy though.

It has afforded much comedy. Mostly from Monty Python.

Although, and here's me being Debbie Downer, as is my wont, the first thing I think about when I think France, is all of the horrendous race riots, and that spate of people setting themselves on fire as a form of protest.

....And now I have to go look at some kittens or something to cheer myself up.

Just a normal guy or girl, possibly more friendly than a lot of other British people. Most Americans I've met whether in this country, over in the US or online are quite awesome.
