Every gamer, no no, every single human being on the planet under the age of 30ish has one game, without which, they would be a very different person, a game that set them on a different course in life, possibly inspired them to become a gamer. Today's question is "What is that Game?"

For me its pokemon blue, my life forked so much when i discovered pokemon I wouldnt be surprised to find out that, without it, I wouldnt even be alive right now it affected me so much (well maybe that's exaggerating a bit) also Legend of Zelda Majoras Mask, the first game I ever played that, by today's standards is FRICKIN' AWESOME!!!

Lufia II:Rise of the Sinistrals, I'd probably have never gotten into RPGs if it wasn't for this game, and I could arguably say it started me on the "gamer" path.

The game that inspired me to start playing video games more was probably Oddworld. God, that game was awesome.

Not sure. It's either Yoshi's Island or Donkey Kong Country 2. Soooooooo many good memories with both of them... ^^

Oblivion. My first WRPG. And my favorite!

Introduced me to a whole new world of games. I still like the occasional JRPG, but really, Oblivion changed my gaming life.

I bought Starcraft because it looked really cool, but it was so good that it brought me into the RTS genre, and made me a Blizzard fanboy.

Battle Arena Toshendin. A fighting game that forever changed my strategies and plans when playing another 1 on 1 fighter game

I would say Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. This game got me into action/adventure games with more emphasis on exploration.

Outcast. I was in a Best Games Club when I was younger, where I got such classics as Rayman, Cæsar 3, Railroad Tycoon 2 etc. Then one month I got Outcast. I barely understood English at the time, yet I still managed to beat it. I just had to, 'cause it was so awesome. It took months, and I didn't even order the next two games because I still played Outcast. Its open world, quests, action and lore was unlike everything I had played before.
And now they got it on GoG.com
Just wish I could justify buying it, but money is short these days.
EDIT:
You could argue and say that I already was a gamer, but this was the game that really set me on the path to be a "proper" gamer.

GoldenEye is the game that made me a gamer. It was the very first game I ever played.

So, yeah. 007 holds a special place in my heart.

*Notices post count* Holy crap! I have 100 posts? *Insert generic fanfare*

The game that made me taking games more seriosly and playing them regularly, and therefor most important would be HL2. If it weren't for that game I probably wouldn't even be typing this comment.

EVE Online, it has become a large part of my life and I really don't know what kind of person I would be if I hadn't started playing it 3 years ago. Certainly a lot less tolerant and open minded :)

Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. That set the bar for games I play.

Edit: OR Splinter Cell for Gamecube. I love stealth games to death, and that was the first I had ever played.

It's got to be:

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Not just because it's such a brilliant game and has left it's imprint on millions of childhoods the world over, but because of the way I played it the first time.
My brother and I played the game. I was ten years old, and played the young Link portion of the game. He, being six years old played the adult Link portion. (Not balanced, but that's not the point)

Because of this we WERE Link. The two Links. Past and future, young and old. That memory of the game will last forever.
