By far is Kingdom Hearts.

That game just wrapped you up in its story and you never want to leave it.

I have a tie between the first Jak and Daxter and the first Ratchet and Clank, because they were the two first games I ever played, and I enjoyed them quite a bit. Fallout 3 would also qualify, as it changed the way I saw rpg's.

I'll give you a clue,
<--

I know rogue trooper wasn't one of the 'best' games around but when I had a ps2 I always found the game extremely good fun, these days people are always talking about the graphics, gameplay etc. but the early games were fun, a quality which seems to lack in most of todays games.

I'm not saying that I hate modern games, I just don't think that they are as fun as they could/should be.

Introduced me to a whole new world of games. I still like the occasional JRPG, but really, Oblivion changed my gaming life.
This. I seem to quote you a bunch, but this game seriously had me in awe the first time I played it. I couldnt get off for almost a day. I still kept the game out of pure nostalgia.

As for what game I could not give up, either Modern Warfare games.

It wasn't a game, but a system. The DreamCast.
Before it, I also played games, but I made my purchases rather randomly, not knowing where to look for good games, not keeping myself informed, and thus I purchased a lot of crap.

The DreamCast changed all that.

I'd have to say Chrono Trigger. I had played The Legend of Zelda before Chrono Trigger but it really hadn't stopped me from being a mostly platformer/shooter/fighting game player. Chrono Trigger actually showed me that video games can have incredibly well written, complex stories and have gameplay to match that. I guess Chrono Trigger really opened my eyes to the RPG genre, which I previously didn't give a shit about and thought it was for nerds.

Knights of the Old Republic is my most important game.

It introduced me to WRPGs (I had NO idea such things existed) and Bioware. Thank you for lending me this game, Michael, wherever you might be. /tear
