Alabamian Here.
Obviously we are stereotyped as being racist rednecks, which is a bullshit stereotype brought on by (tin foil hat time) democrats when we switched parties because we wanted to focus more on the economy than bullshit racial issues.
In reality, we are just regular americans who have a southern accent and we are not as racist as people tend to believe, i mean if we were, why does the entire south have a larger population of blacks than any where else in the country. and to further go on, we tend to vote democratically on local levels, but this is slowly starting to change do to an increase in middle class and corporate businesses moving in along with an increase in technology.
Are there rednecks? well, yeah, every place has red necks, but then again our red necks tend to keep to them selves and not be the friggin family guy stereotype that revises the civil war history to our favor. also i lived here all my life and have seen ZERO klan members or any openly racist people that wasnt just a token mumble about something and then immediately dropped and not spoken.
And i also hate that bullshit about us being anti-technology and hostile that isnt protestant white. this is bullshit. you can go up to any old protestant geezer and ask him what his top five favorite tv station are and i guarantee the science channel or discovery channel is in there. We are not uneducated morons, in fact our education is pretty good.....its just that when you average up everyone from every demographic, you tend to have a huge drop in the average....and some of you know what im talking about. (personally i blame the unfortunate over exposure of a culture that promote ignorance and a lack of self irresponsibility along with a failure in parenting and good role models/ father figures in said demographic, which is sad because they have massive amounts of potential.)
