IJmuiden, the Netherlands. A place just big enough for most Dutch people to know of its existence. It's generally know for its harbour, beach and industry.

My town is small, rich, and white. And that's how most in the area come to know it, extremely high property prices so only they can afford to live there. Also I work in a town known as "The Big Nazzty" and it's mainly known for fact that there's a crime every half a second.

I live in Berkley, MI a small city in oakland county. One thing that I know that not alot of people know about berkley is that in WWII, the night before the famous flag scene in Iwo Jima a solder went though enemy lines and planted a small american flag to mark the site. That solder was from Berkley. Also they wanted to name Berkley like Berkely, CA but when they ordered the signs, there was a typo so the typo became the city's name.

Once out of boredom I looked my town up on UrbanDictionary, the town of Sterling, Virgina is known for being nothing but yuppies and stuck-up businessmen from the north who just came down here for cheap property and jobs in Washington and the rest of Virgina hates us, and in fact the entire northern region of VA.

Thanks, fellow citzens you guys are the greatest.

Not a lot other than having some Professor in Harry Potter named after it.

Oh, and it was also on the news for five minutes when a Waltzer ride broke and one of the carriages came flying off.

I guess Shrewsbury counts as my hometown.

It's the birthplace of Charles Darwin, we have the most overcrowded prison in England and Wales, and the worlds largest Doric Column [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_Hill%27s_Column] and a big Light Infantry HQ/Barracks. Go us! :D

My area is a meaningless suburb. The Town nearby is Northampton.

Ask anyone what it's famous for and they'll tell you "Shoes" (Cobbler town)

I, however, can enlighten moreso:

The Battle of Northampton ended the War of the Roses (BIG Civil War in medieval England)

The Washingtons (The ancestors of George Washington) were Northamptonian nobles, and Washington's Great Grandfather (or something like that) was the Mayor of Northampton

It used to be one of the "handsomest towns in all this part of England", after the Great Fire of Northampton burnt the old streets to the ground and allowed modern (read:1700s at the time) planning. It is now, however, a craphole of the worst kind
