=')

My town is known pretty much solely for the fact that about 200 years ago we used to pee in pots and used the pee to whiten sheets.

What? You asked!

My city is famous for being the home of the people who ruined the Icelandic economy..
And Erm.. Björk Guðmundsdóttir was born and raised here.. Not sure, if she still lives here though.

I come from Whitehaven, Cumbria UK. a small town today in comparrison with the rest of Britain with only a population of aprox 25,000

My town's mark in history is that during the 17th and 18th centuary was one of the most busiest merchant ports in England.

However it is also known to be the location for the only succsesful invasion by the United States during the American War of Independance in 1778. Which was led by John Paul Jones a Scotsman, who was the United States' first well-known naval fighter in the American Revolutionary War.

The invasion was of covert, during the night John Paul Jones led a small naval raid upon Whitehaven spiking several cannons and setting fire to a few merchant ships. The Damage done was minimal however the effect on the moral was tremendous for the American Navy as the invasion had been a complete succses with no loss of life to the American Raiding Party.

So with John Paul Jones effectivly a traitor to the English Crown and 200 years later What does Whitehaven do?

Build a statue of him spiking a cannon in our harbour and name a Pub after him.

Littlehampton, West Sussex, Engand: birthplace of Anita Roddick (Body Shop founder), and wartime base of Ian Fleming (James Bond writer). And, er, that's about it.

I'm from Falkirk in Central Scotland. Unfortunately for me, it's only famous for two really stupid things:

1) It's was the Battlesite where William Wallace saw his first (and only) defeat.

2) The highest recorded number of "UFO sightings" in the world - more specifically in Bonnybridge (where my girlfriend lives - although she claims to have never see any aliens).

Needless to say, we don't exactly make a good name for ourselves.

My town is known for being the place where Nirvana played their very first show. Other than that, though, it's a very depressing hole.

Örnsköldsvik, Sweden is most known for the birthplace of Peter "Foppa" Forsberg. We also was one of three places in Europe that got a Star Wars exhibit. Berlin, London and Örnsköldsvik, a town that no one has heard about and cares less of but the ones who arranged the exhibit was here a year earlier and fell in love with the place :)
