Given the typical RPG sort of game, which sort of class do you prefer to play as?

Obviously classes differ depending on the RPG, whether it be like Diablo and Dragon Age or Final Fantasy, Monster Hunter and Mass Effect.

People prefer different methods of gaming and I notice this in MMOs, some people hate getting up close and fighting because it may mean easy death, others think ranged attacking is wimpy, others believe curers are most important because they help the most in a pickle. So which one do you prefer to play as across the span of RPGS?

I tend to play as a searcher.

In regular RPGs I prefer the melee dpser. Preferebly the one with some survivability.

In MMOs I often tend to play the supportive roles. It was mainly to get groups at first, but I've grown fond of being the healer(in WoW) or the buffer/debuffer(in LOTRO).

I like to mingle a bit between getting up close and friendly or nearly sniping the living daylights out of them with an assault rifle. It depends on: my ammount of ammo, how bored I am, or a fatalistic combination of both.

Does persuading everyone in the room to become my ally count as a strategy? Cuz that's my favourite.

Otherwise give me a stick and a load of health potions and i'm set

I always go for either a paladin archetype, as in heavy armor, healing ability for max staying power so I can just rough it up until things go down. Otherwise I go for a berserker playstyle, heavy armor, dual wields for high speed and damage.

Unless the game has a summoner style class, in which case I take that as a primary, and then take either a warrior type, archer type, or mage type as a secondary playstyle, warrior being top priority, archer second, etc.

Either a melee dual-wielding rogue that's not stealthy, or a warrior with more agility and damage than heavy armor/defense. Or a mixture of those two.

Indeed.
In all single player games, I'm normally the caster class, because they can do the maximum damage, but a cost is low health and armor. Super fun getting fully buffed and one shotting crowds, though.

In MMO's, I'm a tank. Started as a tank in WoW, tanked since them.

I always try to be the Genre-Savvy Redshirt, who knows that he's going to die, and that it's his DUTY to die, but I end up surviving most of the time...

I liked to pick a class which gives me some sort of stealth or way of getting through unnecessary mobs, like the Siren in borderlands/rogue in WoW.

Well I like to hide in the bushes outside of their house and-

Oh. In video games.

If there's some new gameplay elements I'm not totally familiar with? Tank melee. Otherwise? Protip: Mage class, bitches! Or if I'm feeling like a challenge, ranged can be tricky. Unless, of course, it is a shooter, in which case... Protip: Sniper rifle, bitches!

If it's possible to, without getting my ass kicked, a strategy-less Glass Cannon. Charge into battle, killing everything as fast as possible with no real strategy. More often than not though RPGs require a certain degree of strategy, which I'm good at and don't mind using.

I mix it up. I think of myself as a rogue, but I don't always play that way.

In Mass Effect (especially the second game), I love being a Vanguard. It has ruined all the other classes for me. I charge at every opportunity.

In Dragon Age: Origins, I prefer to be an Archer. In Dragon Age 2, it's looking like I'm going with a dual wielding rogue.

In Elder Scrolls and New Vegas, I prefer speed and strength (yep, I go with melee in New Vegas). And I ignore the sneaking skills.

In Knights of the Old Republic, I prefer to be a Jedi Master (force focused rather than lightsaber or balanced).
