When it comes to single player, I lean more towards the stealthier characters.
With MMO's I'd rather play a healer or a tank.

A good way to describe my attack style is a Unicycle Steamroller.
I go across from one side of the battlefield to the next using the biggest things I can and blindly destroying anything that looks at me funny and only going on until whatever is in my way has been squished. Although I do tend to fall over and die, alot.

Glass canon or underdog on new genre "RPG"s. Underdogs have usually less content, so I havent done them lately. Otherwise I just try to be creative.

Glass Cannon all day erry day.

Low health, high damage, maximum fun.
that approach depends on whether i have control over a character or not. if my damage is decided purely by numbers, i tend to go tank and just get as high damage/defense as possible, but if i have physical control over my character's aiming point, i tend to go the glass cannon route.

It all depends on the situation, but I love to make engagements lightning quick, usually that means up close high damage weapons, rushing in is really fun, but sometimes long range is most gratifying.

The Magician if possible, or else a healer or long-range combat. I love to be the support guy, and plotting out strategy on the move.

Well played sir, well played.
Dude, aside from the one poster at the end, the thread died in mid 2009. Fuck thread Necromancy, just start a new one.

As for my favored role, I favor the Gamebreaker role, especially if the AI for companions is... lacking.

Snipe then bullrush for shooters. Long range headshots (or knee caps) followed by sprint + spray. For RPG's melee tank with magic to boost melee dmg

Magic-melee generally, but I feel I do like to put survival ahead of damage, I just don't want to run around to do it. Being able to provide support as well dealing melee damage, something which WoW decided to rip away from me when I hit the higher levels (paladin =<). In Rift I started a Druid/Shaman/Justicar which I was enjoying until it got later in the game, which turned into absolute shoddy healing AND damage, and then switched to a bard for damage which provided support. In Age of Conan I picked the glass Cannon Herald of Xotli due to it's great magical melee ability. So yeah, as long as it hits magic at close range, I'm happy.. if it can survive or provide support too then all the better.

I tend to be the incredibly potent wizard, usually focused around directly controlling how the battle goes.

I'm the bane of EVERYONE. Physical fighters find they cannot move. I actively prevent other spellcasters from casting spells.

It's all down to the hard work and preparation.

1. Grind character to insanity
2. Get loads of health
3. Using money from grinding, buy big sword
4. Steamroll, no stealth

The giant wall of meat whose job it is to prevent the others from dying off like cows in a slaughter house. it's much simplier then most other jobs.

To give you a good example, my first Fallout 3 character had lots of specialization in melee weapons and bartering. This lead to me charging into every fight with a knife in one hand and a stimpak in the other. Good times, goooodd times.

It usually depends on the game, but in WoW and Dragon Age I went with the Mage, so I'll pick that here.

The DoT/debuffer class. I like to slowly drain the enemy while weakening them to the point that they can't fight back.

Other fun things that sometimes pop up with this type of class are pets to sacrifice or crowd control. All good stuff.

To be honest, I like a well-rounded dynamic. I want to be able to sword the enemy effectively, but I don't want to be defenseless in magic or be bogged down by swarms. Ergo, ever man or woman with a sword or something also needs a blammo. I am not so much into support magic beyond the use of white magic, though.
