What kind of Pokemon team do you build?

It usually depends on the starter I go with. I try to have as few type repetitions as possible across the party, with the possible exception of secondary typing like Flying. I generally have four different Pokemon that know Surf, Fly, Strength, and Cut individually, and if required I'll have something like Gyarados to suck it up and learn Surf and Waterfall.

As far as typing goes, I generally go with a Fire, Water, Flying, Electric, Psychic (or Ghost that can learn Psychic attacks; I always had a Haunter on my team in the Gen I games), and then pseudo-legendary and potential legendary. It varies based on the generation and starter I go with, but that's probably what I most often have, with some outliers like Weavile every now and then.

My first Hall of Fame Team for Pokemon X:
-Delphox Fire/Psychic
-Salamence Dragon/Flying
-Garchomp Dragon/Ground
-Blastoise Water
-Gardevoir Psychic/Fairy (Oneshotted all the dragon in the Elite 4)
-Aegislash Steel/Ghost (OP.. nuff' said)

Kinda got struggling since I don't have a strong grass or Electric type, and relied on Salamence using Thunder Bite.

I use what's best for what's ahead so basically anything against Brock when I powerlevel the hell out of them (my current team being metapod, a female nidoran, spearow, charmealon, pikachu which I won't use just yet, and ratatta). I think my pikachu alone will be high enough level to deal with misty. From there on it's just a matter of being high enough level to defeat Surge, and the others who I forget the names of.

I avoid electric types. I find them useless because I normally already have pokemon that covers electric's strengths. I also tend not to overlap too much with types unless I'm building something like a hail or sandstorm team.

I'm definitely having an aegislash in my team once I get X or Y though (too poor atm and everything is so much more expensive here in NZ). It sounds so good.

I've actually gotten rid of both the Gen I and Gen VI starters in my team. I decided I wanted to EV train a whole fresh team, designed with balance and effectiveness in mind, just before I go to fight the Elite Four, since in all previous Pokemon games I've just picked up Pokemon I like along the way and steamrolled with my starter.

So, now, I'm rocking;

Gogoat (Grass) for stalling. He's crazy bulky, can throw down Leech Seed and use Milk Drink, and has decent offensive stats too. He's a real pain to break down for nearly anything except physical Fire types, as his Special Defense is high enough to shrug off a Flamethrower or two.

Tyranitar (Rock/Dark) to act as a wall against physical types, and to dish out some damage. His typing is great for crushing Psychics and Ghosts that might otherwise rip my team apart.

Volcarona (Bug/Fire) is my main Sp.A damage dealer. With Quiver Dance and Fiery Dance, it can quickly snowball out of control and wipe out whole teams, as its typing grants a lot of coverage.

Scizor (Bug/Steel) is just... it's Scizor. It just rips through teams and has STAB on U-Turn, meaning it can do an insane amount of damage and switch out into Gogoat or Tyranitar to take the hits for it.

Aerodactyl (Rock/Flying) with maxed out Speed EVs and a speed-boosting nature, along with very high attack values, is here to add a real cutting edge to the team, able to outrun nearly anything else, making him great for revenge-killing.

And finally, Dragalge (Dragon/Poison) as a Special Defense wall to soak up the damage that Gogoat is weak to. He's also got huge special attack, as well as STAB Draco Meteor, meaning there's very little that can survive a hit from it if they can't deal with him in one hit.

Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled trainers should try to win with their favorites.
Yeah, that's me right there.
The best in the world.

And Ash is a complete retard for letting him go, that's for sure.

1:14. Brock makes a Big Mistake.

Right now?
I got a Meowstic, cuz it's a cool little kitty cat
A Roserade, because it's a high sp.attack pokemon who looks like a superhero to me, what with the mask and cape and all
A Krookodile, which i have creatively named K.Rool
A Mien Shao, because I didn't really like the way mega-cham looked
An Aegislash, which I'm thinking about switching out if i can find a super-sized Gourgeist. not sure
And Azumarill. because azumarill.
took me forever to find good natures/breed natures into them, but I think its pretty balanced. I dunno the tiers n such, so it might not hold up competitively, but I never expected to anyways

I generally just pick pokemon that I like without much regard to their effectiveness(see Umbreon). As far as single player parties go I keep the 6 that allow me to keep all HMs and TMs that you need to move around without switching around Pokemon. I don't care for HM slaves so I just try to place the traveling moves where they can be used most effectively.

Side note is is possible to get a Hydreigon that knows Thunder through breeding? Because I want a Ghidorah...

i am the kind of A-hole that likes to always have a Legendary party, because i don't like challenge in the games that i play, i like to wipe the floor by being as cheap as possible. and if i am not on top on any game i play i don't play that game. so i don't play a lot of multiplayer unless i know i can win, so i usually play against little kids, yes my self-esteem is very low.

=\

Here's the game for you, come play with us sometime. http://blog.dota2.com/

yes it was a joke.

And your team is valid, it's a single player game for the most part, so you can do what you like.

I'm playing the Y version right now and my team is:

Charizard (fire/flying)
Alakazam (psychic)
Mew (psychic with surf)
Marowak (ground)
Machamp (fighting)
Pikachu (electric)

So I'm pretty well covered for every type. I'm just about to go up against Koga and my Alakazam and Marrowak should make short work of him. I'm not sure what everybody is on about with "mega evolutions" and "shinies" and I have never heard of even half of these pokemon, are they some sort of pokegod or can you only catch them in the R and B versions?

So you're playing Y version with an entire Gen 1 team? Y?

At the minute I have 3 Pokemon that are bug type, 2 of which are part flying. 1 of which is part fighting, to go with my other grass type, that is also part fighting. Then I have my pure water type, and the dragon type I took on, which has let me down in its evolution, so I'll probably dump it by the elite four for something I actually have feelings for.

So yeah, LOTS OF SENTIMENTS.

Yeah, I don't get it, either. I just have 3 Gen 6 Pokemon, sadly. I wanted a full team of them, but...shiny Yanmas and lack of new Pokemon kind of prevented that. I'm not finished the game, though, but the supplies of new Pokemon seem to be one per area, and I'm running out of areas!

I love Scraggy, too. Favourite Gen 5 Pokemon.

I try to get all of the starters for that specific region in my party. I was lucky enough to get all 3 Kalos starters in my group for example. My current group is;

Fennekin (22)
Froakie (22)
Chespin (22)
Tyrunt (21)
Honedge (22)
Florette (22)

I want to keep my starters young but since they all learn something in their final form at level 36, I'll let them evolve around then. I experimented with other Pokemon as well and will sometimes use legendaries though not often. When it comes to the long-term I see myself holding on to Tyrunt, Fennekin and, probably Honedge. I caught an Abra but am a bit reluctant to use it considering how often I usually use Kadabra. Same with Snorlax which I almost always use.

Hah, the mark of an only child with a GameBoy. A huge fondness for Haunter/Kadabra/Machoke.

My current team is
Delphox (Fire/Psychic)
Gogoat (Grass)
Lapras (Water/Ice, I was just given it by some random npc and only use it for surf)
Doublade (Ghost/Steel)
Aerodactyl (Rock/Flying)
Charizard (Fire/Flying)

Before Lapras I was using Pancham (Fighting) as an HM slave.

I'll probably revise my team some more as I progress though.

I play with what strikes my fancy. I find it difficult to focus on the more complicated facets of Pokemon training.

I'm currently rocking:

Delcatty (47)
Venusaur (47)
Umbreon (50)
Delphox (48)
Raichu (44)
Azumarill (51)

I suppose I just like cute things? Venusaur notwithstanding. He used to be cute.

My ingame team is always as mixed as possible, with no type redundancies. I play efficient. And I like almost every pokémon design so don't run into the "Oh, this looks shit but Is good" problem.

Currently breeding some perfect IV mons for early competitive. Mega Kangaskhan is next on the list, choice specs Noivern and banded Azumarill have proven to be gods when it comes to rated battles. Gale Wings Talonflame with a Life Orb has also proven remarkably effective, and my shiny protean Greninja destroys people with matchup mindgames.

In short, my team is fluid because I love using lots of different pokes. But I always try to run a team that hasn't got any overall glaring weaknesses. That sun team would be no fun for me.

Likewise, your master-of-none team sent me to sleep. Mega Charizard's drought into fire blast says hi =D

Edit: or even Solarbeam. Dayum the new meta.
