I'm currently in a debate with a friend about how Ezio and Altair uses the Hidden blade in combat.

I think it is used in a punchy kind of way; where they grasp it between their knuckles or palm-punches to make it seem like they are unarmed.

He disagrees; thinking the hidden blade is more like a dagger; that you just surprise slash people and wield it like a normal weapon.

To back me up - I think these say allot.

And now one's of Ezio

What do you think?

EDIT: Just made a good point from the view of a WoW player.

If you've ever played world of warcraft; there are two types of weapons; Daggers and Fist weapons, Daggers are Blades with a grip meant to be held like a sword; while fist weapons are weapons that are attached to your arm and can have all sorts of things on them (blades, firesticks, magical claws) I think the hidden blade is more of a fist weapon.

It can go either way, it's a dagger between your fingers, it can be used for slashing or stabbing, like a regular dagger.

I would think though that the Sides would be blunted off to stop it slashing your middle and ring fingers as it activated.

And a dagger should be a slashy weapon - not just a punchy

(just so people know when I say punchy - I mean puncture.)

I just got this information from some old Dev team information.

The Hidden blade was based off a katara.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katara_%28sword%29

Which is listed as a dagger - but also a fist weapon.

Weird.

It's the hidden blade that's all there is to it. It's not a dagger or anything. Also, I have had plenty of fun discussions with my friends over the uses of fictional weapons because it's all just in good fun.

I used to have nerd fests with my friends about who was a better leader - Picard or Kirk

Off topic, but how come Ezio has all his fingers?
The hidden blade was modified in order to no longer require the loss of the ring finger. It helps with the whole espionage thing.

They modified the hidden blade so you don't need to cut of your ring finger; since the classic assassin's have been gone for a while in AC2.

It's quite simple how they modified it.

They blunted off the edges so it doesn't cut your fingers

Perhaps the assassins of 1191 weren't too bright.

You can see what I mean in the first picture of Ezio.

The first bit of the blade (the bit he grips) is blunt.

Firstly, Bwahahahah!
Thats pretty hilarious :p

Secondly, thank you :)

And finally, on topic, I always thought it was more of a palm strike type thing, but the evidence seems to point towards the punch.

*Edit*
In fact, in the actual games, doesn't he do a palm strike? All the promotional art seems to suggest the punch, but the actual strike animation in game, if I'm remembering correctly from AC1, was a palm strike. A stabby one.

I'd say the hidden blade is a stabbing weapon, it's too small to be used for slashing.
