i also doubt the Devs acctually got the idea from a 'punching blade'

the 'WristBlade' has been around for a long time and has been used in many forms by enthusiests, hollywood, and outlaws to have a consealable weapon in easy reach. the first memorable example of a Wristblade would be in the movie 'Hudson Hawk' (1991); a light action comedy box office flop staring bruce willis. during the end the butler produces 2 wrist mounted switch blades which, while wholey impractical, are shear awsome.

I would hate to say they were 100% inspired by a punchblade (as nothing is 100% inspired from one thing - that would be copying) - although they said some inspiration from the Katara; an Ancient Middle eastern/Indian weapon.

Altairs was a single piece blade. Davinci edited the blade so that you didn't have to cut off your ring finge. Ezio's was two pieces one not even a blade so that you had aplace for your fingers to rest. In stealth assasinations, he does it open palmed to let the blade go deeper. In combat, hes more or less fist-fighting with a blade out, with the blade in between the ring and middle finger. A combo kill with it I've seen him put his hands on top of someones head and have the blade go into their eyes, while another was Ezio rapidly punching the enemy in the stomach with the blade out. Another, he drosses his arms and pulls them apart, slashing the enemies throat.
Actually Leonardo only copied the design in the codex, Written by Altair
Yes he did. But, it said that in the cutscene, Leonardo edited the blade so that Ezio did not have to cut off his finger.
