Dude - I don't think the Hidden blade should slash - I think it's complete bollocks.

I agree with you on this one.

I think the Hidden blade is a fist/wrist weapon made for stabbing and augmenting your normal punches.

My friend thinks It's a weapon on it's own and can be used for anything (Slashing, blocking etc)
Blocking? that would be far too risky plus the entire mechanism wouldn't stand upto the stress
Exactly.

Actually I just had a thought if I was going to make such a weapon I would have given it a triangular cross-section like an Estoc it would still be effective against chain mail and the bluntness along with the taper would cause the flesh to split and tear upon entry

Why don't you buy one and try for yourself?

He does have a metal plate on his Right arm to block incoming blows (just launched the game) never uses it though.

For assassination it's definately a spring-katar (Punch dagger) but ezio also uses slashing actions with it when in melee. So it's a multi-use blade.

Probably because blocking like that would hurt

That's my problem though - if you look at the first picture of Ezio in the Original Post - you will see most of the blade is blunted off to prevent finger-injury; and the only damage you could do would be with a stabbing motion.

I think that probably sums up this entire thread.

Perhaps Ezio just swings blunt pieces of metal at the enemy until they fall down.

It can go either way, it's a dagger between your fingers, it can be used for slashing or stabbing, like a regular dagger.

Off topic, but how come Ezio has all his fingers?
They modified the hidden blade so you don't need to cut of your ring finger; since the classic assassin's have been gone for a while in AC2.

It's quite simple how they modified it.

They blunted off the edges so it doesn't cut your fingers

Perhaps the assassins of 1191 weren't too bright.

You can see what I mean in the first picture of Ezio.

The first bit of the blade (the bit he grips) is blunt.
I have 3 different web browsers open at the moment and none of them show the first picture, so forgive any mistakes.

How can a blade have blunt edges? If it's blunt can it be called an edge? If it's blunt how can it pierce the heavy guys armor?

He doesn't grip any part of the blade, there isn't a handle.

I'm not going against it being a stab - as anything sharp being put in you - is a stab.

I'm saying is the motion Ezio and Altair inserts said sharp object into them a Slashy Dagger way or a Punch in the gut with a blade way.

And to add to the bit about the 'Open palm' - Altair and Ezio could just be Kung-fu fighters.

Some fighting styles have you punch your enemy with an open palm - although maybe they just want the blade without the fist for easy kills.

Basically - with a dagger you have to clutch a handle of some sort and that makes it the blocks/parries of a sword - while with the Hidden blade; you have to grip it between your knuckles.

The whole thing reminds me of Wolverine vs a knife wielding Mob.
If your executing somebody it is a stab, whether it be low profile or high profile. If your in combat then it is "slashy dagger type"

An open palm punch ... is a slap.

Ezio and Altair DO NOT hold the hidden blade in anyway, shape or form, thats like saying wolverine holds his blades, there part of him. Ezio and Altair wear vambraces, which house the blades. The blades don't detach from the vambraces.

Unless I have been badly mistaken and totally got the wrong end of this thread, you messed up.

Yes, It is a stab; anything where the pointy end punctures someones skin is a stab.

We're remarking on the fact that in all the pictures of Ezio the sides of the blade are blunted off so he can safely grip it between his knuckles for some of the animations.

Yet you can swing around these blunt pieces of metal like a dagger.

And a palm punch isn't a slap; An open palm punch is a strike in different types of martial arts.

It can't be "blunted" off blade, it's a contradiction (I can't remember the right word for it), it's like saying it's a cold fire. From what I can gather the blade comes out below his fist, so the blade isn't anywhere near his other fingers. (that being the mod that is made to it). As for Altair I don't think he cared, he sacrificed one finger, whats cutting the other fingers?

He doesn't need to grip it, the vambrace is gripping his arm, it's not going any were. If your wearing gloves, you don't walk around with a clenched fist so they don't fall off.

If your hand is open and you hit somebody, you just slapped them. Calling it an open palmed punch is just trying to "butch" it up. It doesn't matter what your doing if you hit with an open hand your slapping, I've seen UFC fighters slapping, even they call it slapping.

If you line up your forearm and bend your wrist back 90 degrees to hit your opponent, it's a palm thrust.

Dude - boot up your game or look at some art; the hidden blade in AC2 is blunted off till about 2/3 up the blade; making it impossible for slashing actions; Ezio and altair do two things in combat with the blade in art and in game; they either hold the blade between their knuckles and use it in fisticuffs or bend their hand back and just shove the blade in.

And open palm strike isn't a slap - a slap implies a different hand angle.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strike_%28attack%29#Palm

The bloody military use it.

The hidden blade when it comes to slashing and blocking is a useless weapon; and that's why Altair And Ezio should only use it to augment their punches.

EDIT: I see you called it palm thrust - perhaps it's just semantics.

Basically - It would be nigh useless to use the hidden blade(s) as a dagger/sword/uber slashing device.

As It's just too small and most of it is blunted.

'Hidden edge' just doesn't have the same ring.

Think of a retractable claw but with one dagger and on the underside of your arm.

If your hand is open and you swipe at them THEN its a slap. With the dagger it wouldn't work because if he's slapping you then the flat side of the dagger will hit you. He has to do a sort of sideways slap if he wants to slice with it.

But most of the time he thrusts it with his fingers up to stay away from the body and to maximise impact, thats a palm punch or palm thrust.

And what was your opinion of Dragon Age? I played it a while back, didn't like it, no no.
