What kind of weapon is the Hidden Blade?

It's definitely, to me, a piercing kind of weapon. Slashing with it would be almost useless from a functional standpoint, since not only does it not have sufficient weight or a properly shaped edge to deliver force from the edges, there's also the problem of almost any kind of armour making slashing attacks much less effective.

From the game's standpoint, there's also the problem of meeting the kind of resistance to motion a human body would present; the mechanism for the hidden blade has to be rugged, of course, but repeated slashing would most likely break it as it doesn't have the kind of support necessary for that.

Funny thing is that it annoys me that you can fight with the hidden blade in AC2. The counter-kill animation for it are all incredibly bad ass mind you, but to make it no sense and seems to make the need for other weapons totally trivial.

While it's obvious that typical attack for the hidden blade is a slash, it doesn't make any sense given the lenght of the weapon, the way it's held and so forth. As traukanshaku mentioned, the thing has to be somewhat fragile and would stand up to applied force from the side and eventually break. AC2's use of the hidden blade as a melee weapon (beyond the simple assassination strike) is a very clear case of the rule of cool trumping logic and physic.

I suppose as hidden-blade bracer fighting styles go, I'd guess it boils down to blade placement.

If the blade's on the inner side of the wrist, (like the AC Hidden blade) You'd get much more power (not to mention lethality) from puncture and stabbing attacks. Heck of a lot more weight behind the punching motion. (the reason karate chops aren't the mainstay of UFC, but aside from the movie Seven, there aren't too many hidden blades that work on the mechanic of rolling around on the floor humping your opponent.)

As far as wielding it like a dagger or short-sword, I would suppose if the blade was on the outside of the wrist, or bracer, Much like Baraka from Mortal Kombat
It would be a lot more useful for parrying blows, and landing slashing attacks. (also keeps hands free for secondary dagger, for fun or profit. simply for the fact that it can extend past your hand, without worrying about impaling yourself, or parrying blades sliding up into your wrist.

But then again it goes about to the purpose of the weapon being a concealed blade. It's not made for full on battles, it's so you can make swift stabity justice, and then GTFO before anyone's the wiser.

Can the hidden blade work in real life just like it does in the game? Like how it pops out when you flick it and it retracts when you flick it again.

You can "punch" someone with a sword, it's called stabbing. You can easily do that with the hidden blade.
Way to completely miss the point.

I've already answered this.

A discussion on a weapon that I believe is only in a video game is comparable to a lengthy debate on the use of lightsabres in Iraq.
Lightsabers are inhumane and should be outlawed. Jedi should use blaster pistols like everyone else.
But blaster pistols are bad for the environment.

I'm pro-saber.

Altairs was a single piece blade. Davinci edited the blade so that you didn't have to cut off your ring finge. Ezio's was two pieces one not even a blade so that you had aplace for your fingers to rest. In stealth assasinations, he does it open palmed to let the blade go deeper. In combat, hes more or less fist-fighting with a blade out, with the blade in between the ring and middle finger. A combo kill with it I've seen him put his hands on top of someones head and have the blade go into their eyes, while another was Ezio rapidly punching the enemy in the stomach with the blade out. Another, he drosses his arms and pulls them apart, slashing the enemies throat.

whatever you want to call it
My beef isn't exactly what It's called. more how it is used in combat.
Im not a Russian Communist so I really cant say :p

BUT: If I were to hazard a guess I would say it has to do with something between "stabbing in the face" and "stab you in the eye"

COOKIE FOR REFERENCE (I got you some "stab you in the eye", I hope you dont already have one.)
