To me a man is one who will not compromise his beliefs for anyone.
He is willing to stand for what he believes in even if it hurts or leads to rejection.

And on a more personal level i believe a man is someone who doesn't follow the worlds view of what a macho manly man is, a sex driven idiot who should be fighting and having sex all the time.

I think a "Real" man is someone who would rather talk something out then fight, someone who respects women, and someone who will do anything for their fiends.

Sure a guy will be a guy but, your Girlfriends friend is wrong IMO.

What she described isn't a man but a pervert.
So not watching porn, not masturbating and not being CONSTANTLY filled with thoughts of sex makes me a pervert?

I classify a man as having a male physiology, but personally I've a fairly old-fashioned approach on what constitutes a gentleman- i.e. not being some sex-crazed loony who drools over the nearest female, etc. Not necessarily prudish, but respectful of other's dignity nonetheless.

I judge a guy on his willingness to go down on me.

Unprompted oral is what makes a real man ;D

No really. I do judge guys on that.
I love you, last girl wouldn't let me go down her I was highly disappointed. Being born with a penis is probably only true count of being a real man. I really hope all women don't think like OP GF's friends.

I'd think the opposite.

Most everyone I knew at 14 wanted to have sex with everything.

Not that having a crazy sex drive makes you more of a man, but I don't get how having less of one makes you more manly.

Seriously though, man, you don't have special alone time?

Dude...
I was raised with the moral "Masturbation is wrong" so...yeah. And I'm the sap who does whatever she wants.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I gladly accept death now.

OT: A man is someone who stands by his convictions, no matter the cost. A man is someone who treats women like people and not like objects. A man is someone who can take charge of a situation that has gone down the piss pipe and turn it around to save the day (metaphorically or literally). A man is someone who knows that no matter what he does, bad stuff will always happen and there is little he can do to stop it. And a man is someone who never gives up.

So basically, Angus MacGyver (look it up)

Let's just say I'd be a fucking hypocrite if I did think like the OP's girlfriend ;D

I would say that it's the Y chromosome that makes the man. At least science class told me so...

Seroiusly, that's my answer. I really don't think you can define a man in any other way. Except you knoe... testosterone and a penis.

To me it's like asking What makes a REAL woman. or what makes a REAL cat...

...

I'm gonna go now.. I don't feel like I'm contributing much. I should get some sleep...

It'd be weird to obsess constantly about sex, but a healthy interest is just plain dandy.

I guess that makes you a real boy. But frankly, I only started really taking an interest in girls (in that way) at about that age. There's plenty of time yet for you to become sexually depraved... but at least you wont be deprived.

I was sooo tempted to post the poem "If" by Rudyard Kipling. I recommend it. But basically, I don't think being a man has anything to do with sex, as you'd get from the poem. Go read it.

I think it has something to do with the genitalia you are born with. Im not sure though.
What a radical idea. You should be burned at the stake for heresy. No-one can state such a progressive idea and get away with it...

Joking of course. I believe what Eight Gauge Hippo up there said. However a MANLY man should have a mustache so thick it looks like it houses its own fauna, a forest of hair on his chest, breaths nothing but cigar/pipe smoke and survives on nothing but whiskey and Guinness.

This. I personally think it's bull to force the notion that a man HAS to be strong brave and nobody's ***** all at once. Although, that's just me.

Im expecting lots of genitalia comments but what about people who have a sex-change? Where do they fit into that definition? I think you need to differentiate between sex and character.

My personal definition? There are a lot of "guys" in the world (you just need to be male for that) but a "man" is someone willing to stand up for the right thing and protect others despite what it might cost them personally.

To love a woman, and I don't mean on the physical sense, but really love her. A woman completes a man. Sure you can be strong, or intelligent, or both, but all that has no meaning if you don't have anyone to share it.
