What makes Halo special. (An argument you have probably never heard)

Never thought of it like that, but now that you mention it, CoD always does have enemies that seem to come out of fucking nowhere, while Halo is has enemies that are always there until you kill them.

The big battle scene when you are going to Halo's control room comes to mind when I think of the big set piece battles in Halo, and the part of Modern Warfare 2 in Brazil comes to mind when I think of CoD's random spawning. Whe I compare the two I had much less frustration with Halo because I didn't have fuckers shooting me from the place I just cleared.

All those things apply to something which is arguably much better: Half Life.
Then you can add longer breadth of play, more interesting weapons, and many many other things which are icing on the bare bones of FPS play.
I fear for my life typing this, seeing as I am on the Escapist.

I've never played Half Life

I was never a shooter fan, and Half life Ep 2 came out in the dark time I like to call "The Oblivion Period".

However I'm hoping to pick it up this Christmas. I don't think it will fail to impress me.
I'll lend you my Steam account if need be.
The graphics are hell, being it is....12 years old.
But it is still an amazing game.
Forget Graphics!

I don't use Digital Distribution. I can't stand not having a copy of the game itself.

I was wondering whether I should buy it for my PC or my Xbox? I know the PC has mods, but I still like sitting on my couch with a controller. Are the mods worth it? Like Oblivion worth it?

Just go in expecting excellence, not innovation and it'll be good.
I've been dieing to find out the story of the game. Who is the Gman that everyone speaks of!

Also, I'll ask you too

It sucks because it isn't on the PC. Why are consoles suddenly getting the good exclusives when we get shitty games from everyone but Bioware and VALVe?
Thats a great point! Still, PC gaming will always have mods, so the consoles will never win in my eyes.

Half Life 2 is the better game though, so if you can only buy one, make it HL2.
Aren't both Half life 1 and 2 on The Orange Box? Or is it just Ep 1 and Ep 2?

Cause Damn, will I be left out (story wise) if I don't get HL1?

Well-thought out and logical

However, I don't like Halo because it feels samey and cookie-cutter. Ironically, this is because Halo was the game that moulded the cookie-cutter, and everything else I've played after it is simply Halo with new quirks and little improvements or new concepts

There are 7 half life games? (Or are you counting TF and stuff?)

There all on the Orange Box right?

*Sorry for my obliviance*
He is counting spin offs I believe, all you really need for the Half Life story is Half Life and the Orange Box, which contains Half Life 2, and Episodes 1 and 2. Episode 3 has yet to be released.

Will I be left out (story wise) if I only play Ep 1 and Ep 2 of HL2?

OR will the wikipedia bio be good enough to get what is going on?

(I like how I have derailed my own topic. All well, who cares)

Oh, and by that system of merit, you could just read the entire wikipedia on everything Half Life related, and not ever play it. There is something to actually playing the game and not reading about it.
Such is life! I don't have the time commitment to do that. (Yet)

However I will visit them one day hopefully and see what I have missed out on.

Because more gamers have consoles than gaming PCs and that's where the money's to be made. Obvs, the more people, the higher the pay-check for an exclusive.

Having said that, I'd totally buy a gaming PC if I could afford it. :[
