This may of been done before but i can't find it, so sorry if it has.

So what Martial art do you do (this can include things such as sword fighting etc), and if you do martial arts what rank are you, and where does it come from. Also what martial arts did you do and what rank did you get up to if you quit. If you have never done martial arts you could suggest which one you would like to do.

For me, i do Kuk Sool Won, its korean, and i am a dahn bo nim, which is a higher up brown belt.
I also used to do Wado Ryu karate when i was younger (im now 17) I think i got to 8th kyu, which was probably yellow belt.

I used to do Karate when I was younger, but never got passed the yellow belt.

I've retained a bit, but not much.

I do Karate. I stopped for a couple years and only just picked it back up again a few weeks ago. Currently I'm a brown belt, but if I'd have stuck with it I would have either been a black belt already or going for it this year. I don't know which as there's a minimum length of time you need to spend on each of the three brown belt stages and I can't remember how long I'd been on it when I left.

My current level of fitness and flexibility puts me about green belt level though. Dear lord my kicks look terrible.

I do Tae Kwon Do, I'm a 2nd gup. Two gradings away from black belt. Some of the shit we do is pretty hardcore but my current club is no where near as tough as my old one.

Yellow belt in Taekwondo, never bothered to learn the Impressive but not very practical higher forms, but kicking is good now.
Green Belt in Arnis, what can i say? Hitting people with sticks is fun.
I have an assorted mix of other Martial Arts, but i have never gotten Formal Training from them. I just learnt from watching.

I used to (two years ago now) do Wing Tsun Kuen Kung Fu (I just love saying the full name. Or typing it in fact) and achieved a red belt in my time.

But I haven't done it in so long I can only really remember the absolute basics and the first two and a half forms.

I always wanted to learn Capoeira, but could never find a place that taught it back when I was somewhat athletic.

Orange belt in Ikido, but was a green before the turnover to Senior status. 3/4 belts off of black/1st dan. I think!

I'm a Cho Dan Bo (the step between 1st gup and 1st dan) in Taekwon do and I'm currently training MMA.

I really want to do Jiu-Jitsu, we touch on in in MMA (instructor is a JJ black belt) but I want more. One day I'll go train 10th Planet stuff.

Karate, I'm on my last brown belt, going for black. How cool would it be if someone here did ninjutsu? (ninja martial art)

I used to do several until I had an accident and ... well stop doing them, but:

Full Contact - Black Belt - 2d Dan
Kickboxing - Black Belt
Ju Jitsu - Brown Belt
Karate Shotokan - Green Belt
Kun Fu Wai-Kung Pai - Red Belt
Judo - Green Belt
Taekwondo - Green Belt

After the accident I tried aikido, but I did not felt comfortable with it. Back then I had a really good physical condition... now... well, lets say I need to start doing something

EDIT: To those that practiced, have you ever experienced that momment where time really slows down, when you are so focus on the combat that everything outside seems unreal, where motion and thinking became one? It is the best feeling I have ever had, it is pure perception

Most of the appeal of the higher kicks is that they are impressive and kinda scary. like if you step up back-kick someone they are pretty likely to go down and their mates aren't gonna try anything.

Well, provided you hit them right. I wouldn't try anything that I wasn't 100% on in a real situation if I didn't have to.

Is there any martial art where the fancy stuff is more practical than the basics?

I do karate, shotokan style, and I have my yellow belt (White, orange red then yellow). I like learning the katas and the applications for them more than anything.
