Gah!, I would have picked the Zeta Gundam for its versatility and potent firepower, however- I also have a personal leaning towards the RX-93 Nu-Gundam for similar reasons - but with the added advantage of fin funnels - shit gets fucked up when I THINK it .

Deadnaught from warhammer 40k. Thanatos or Daishi from mechwarrior. Only warhammer and mechwarrior have mechs that could possibly be built. Any of this Japanese anime crap would break just by turning it on.

not really, the warhammer 40k and mechwarrior robots are equally as physics and gravity defying as their japanese counterparts

There's actually at least one anime out there that addresses this issue and invents somewhat more believable black-box technology...

FMP is rather half assed about it compared to VOTOMS and patlabor in regards to the believability of mecha, they go so far as to show 'why giant robots suck but hey we still think they're kinda cool'

I'd probably choose a good suit of power armor over a mech. I much prefer being a small agile target to a giant thundering armored colossus. Would definitely team up with one though. Gotta compliment each others' strengths, right?

Probably would go with Rafale Revive from Infinite Stratos. So much customizability.

Or, if I'm allowed to, the Iron Man suit. Because that thing looks like great fun.

Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. It dwarfs galaxies and looks like a giant Kamina (though, with Simon's star glasses, sadly). It destroyed a universe. Yeah, beyond the impossible doesn't begin to describe it.

Well, it's most likely the most powerful mech ever, in any universe. It's going to be popular.

But does it really count as a mech? I mean, is it, y'know, actually mechanised? It doesn't look like an actual robot.

Actually, they've nearly ruined Ghost In The Shell for me. Not because how they look, though their colour is a bit...iffy, but because in the serious and overal cool universe of GITS, having spider-tanks with AI's comparable to 12 year old Japanese schoolgirls is just...stupid.

Thor, but not the one that's popular these days...

I always thought of the Thor as being undergunned considering it's tonnage and legacy. Sure, it is pretty mobile but compare that to the somewhat heavier Mad Cat:

It sports substantially heavier armor, a pair of LRM-20, a pair of ER Large Lasers, a pair of ER Medium Lasers, a Medium Pulse laser and a pair of Machine guns. It has the capacity to lay down absolutely blistering fire at any range and the durability to slug it out with anything in it's weight class. The thor, by contrast, has but a single LRM-15, an ER-PPC and an LBX-10 Autocannon. Sure it can fire everything it has as often as it wants while using it's mobility to a maximum but even in this regard we find that at any range the Thor can fight, the Mad Cat can easily deliver at least equal if not better firepower. Get in close and all the Thor has is the PPC and autocannon (combined total damage per volley: 20). By contrast the Mad Cat has it's entire laser battery and machine gun arrays (at a range of 3 hexes the Mad Cat and deliver 38 damage). Only at extreme range are the two roughly equal (40 for the Mad Cat and 35 for the Thor) but even here the dramtically heavier armor of the mad cat and equal speed favor the Mad Cat.
