Imagine this, if you will... You've never played a video game in your whole life... Based solely on the video games that have came out in the past 5 years as well as your current [non-gaming] personality, if a particular video game was going to get you into gaming right now, what would it be? Also, what video game would make you "fall in love" with video games as a whole, if the first game you choose wouldn't technically do that? (Bonus points if it's not based on an [franchise] IP made pre-2009...)

For example, despite the first Hyperdimension Neptunia game (2011, US) getting me into gaming (because, given the situation, I've seen the anime and I'm willing to play the video game based on said anime), it would be Rayman Origins (2011) that would make me "fall in love" with video games because the game would remind me of when I was young[er], running around with my friends, smacking each other in the face while "pretending" to jump and punch enemies that got in our way... If video games like that can [still] make me feel young at heart like this one, then I would be so happy to finally be "falling in love" with gaming as well as willing to find games similar to Rayman Origins afterwards...

AC4, Skyrim, DCUO, ME 1/2, Witcher 2...they would all be games that could get me into gaming. Basically most modern adventure/rpg (or mmorpg) games.

If I wasn't into gaming, Minecraft sure would fix that. An infinite world where you can play with legos all you want? Yes please.

Time to cop out!
FFX-FFX II HD Remake or Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix, but seriously I'll go with something designed in the last decade.

Gravity Rush for the Vita, Civ 5 for the PC, Fire Emblem for the 3DS and Ni No Kuni for the PS3.
One for each of the gaming platforms I own as an apology for my first answer.

None of them, probably. I'd just view it as a time sink that takes away from whatever hobbies have been replacing gaming for all these years, and since I'm normally bogged down in schoolwork, I would have very little time for those hobbies to begin with.

Time constraints aside, it would probably be one of the Portal games or a stealth/stealth-action game like the Arkham games, Mark of the Ninja, or Dishonored. These games tend to emphasize thinking through spacial puzzles, albeit in different fashions, which is something I can't easily get from other types of puzzles. Considering I really enjoy thinking through those kinds of challenges, those would probably have the best chance of appealing to me. One of the Arkham games would be the most likely since I've always loved Batman.

Other possibilities would be Assassin's Creed 3 and 4. They both have settings that appeal to different interests of mine.

That's kind of an impossible question to answer, since the personality I have now is shaped by the media I've consumed throughout my lifetime, including videogames.

I agree. My answer is going to be very hypothetical as well, not really got a lot to go on.

My favourite game ever is Dragon Age, but I don't think someone who has ever played games before would necessarily be able to approach that game, considering how combat etc works.

I think The Walking Dead game would get me into gaming. Not only is it based on a TV show that I was watching, but it doesn't have the issues Dragon Age has with being user-friendly/simple to understand. So I think The Walking Dead game would've gotten me into computer games.

Having said that, some of the earliest gaming memories I have are barely touching, if at all, double digits in age but playing D&D style games like Baldur's Gate, so maybe complexity isn't so much of a deterrent. I used to just watch my older brother and learn from him. Without him though, I doubt I would've played those sorts of games.

Seconded. Gaming is a pretty big medium nowadays. Most people have had at least some contact with it, so it would be pretty hard to find out what we would be like if we were non gamers.

If I had to answer though... It would be Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. As a car buff, seeing people racing in transforming versions of them would be amazing. The racing fan in me would always go toward racing games, even if it is my favorite genre.

Well, when I first started playing video games, I was really crappy at it. I would also I get really frustrated if I couldn't over come a challenge to progress. So assuming that would still be the case if I had never played games to this day, I would say Pokemon, Animal Crossing, and web browser games would be my go to. Since they are easy to control and encourage relaxing play.

To be honest, the wide spectrum of free-roaming, parkour, gunplay, customization, and humor in Saints Row IV would definitely appeal to my mentality, but it's hard to make a fair assessment given how much of my mentality has been shaped by games in the first place!

As for falling in love, that would be Telltale's: The Walking Dead for all of its interactive story-telling, tension, and atmosphere. I adored every minute of it. Mostly every minute of it.

Yeah, me too. It tells a good story with a decent amount of interaction. Great characters and pacing too!
This or any good RPGs might do the trick. I'm easy to be persuaded.

Hotline Miami. I've had so much homework for the past year that I haven't been able to commit as much time to gaming as I wanted. I've spent a lot more of my time fiddling with computers and browsing the Internet cause they're things I can do without committing to something (it eased my conscious when I had homework to do). As such, it started becoming hard for me to find the drive to start and finish games. I was working a 9 hour shift one slow Saturday with one other coworker and brought my vita in case I felt like doing something and remembered I downloaded Hotline Miami off ps+ a few months ago. It was probably the first game in a while that I couldn't wait to keep playing when I got home

Currently, I think Spec Ops: The Line for the sheer beauty of story telling present. It would make me far more inclined to find games like that, but I think that it would be difficult going from a game that was story-driven to other games and expecting a similar experience.

Uh, probably Tribes Ascend.
I never play it, and I suck at it but god damn do I think its awesome.

Otherwise probably nothing. I wouldn't like dota as I do now. Do pokemon games count? They did it back then and they can do it now.

Kind of hard to say, I have always been into videogames so I really dont know what could actually lure me in. The Movies pushed me into PC gaming back then as I was very into making animation so I guess games that let you make machinima in it like GTA IV.

If I were to just get into a gaming now, it would probably be a Legend of Zelda game. My puzzle solving skills have gotten much better over the years, and I feel the combat is fun enough in each game. Either Ocarina of Time, Link to the Past, or Link Between Worlds would be good. Since I would be new, most likely Link Between Worlds. I also love music, and the Link Between Worlds soundtrack is pretty good. Not my favorite, but still excellent.

knowing myself it would have to be something like Zelda Link Between Worlds, Rayman Legends, or Super Mario Land 3D for the wiiU.

all of those games are fast, fun, and most importantly don't require insane amounts of concentration to get through them, so I would instantly be hooked on how much fun I'm having

another one could very easily be blazblue, Street Fighter, and/or Dead or Alive. I love 1 on 1 fighting events (MMA, boxing, wrestling, etc.) so an exaggerated fantastical video game version of that would instantly hook me
