The X Files, it was just...creepy.

And Barefoot Gen, ever since I've had horrifying nightmares involving nuclear weapons.

John Carpenter's "The Fog"

Parents let me watch it one Halloween when I was about 6 or 7 and it freaked the fuck out of me.What made it worse is that I live in a valley that regularly fills up with fog.I still don't like foggy weather tbh

Yeah...
Whoo, I'm not alone. Watched it at a classmates birthday party, believe it or not, when I was 8. It made me phisicly sick for about year. Non-good times. For a kid that only used to watch Disney became the reality of clowns that laserbeamed people into coccons of blood not great.

I wasn't so much a kid anymore, but it was the first time I ever had any mental scarring as the result of a movie.
That show resulted in a emotional breakdown which had in me living in my closet in the fetal position for two days...

Not very fun...

Poltergeist. Man, what the hell was I thinking?

"Can I stay up and watch this?" "Are you sure? It's a bit scary." "I'll be fine."

I haven't watched it in years and years but I still remember scenes like the tree (Oh god the tree... Not a nice scene when you have a line of conifers a few feet away from your bedroom window) the cupboard (I slept next to the door to the damn boiler cupboard! Every sound that thing made for weeks scared the hell out of me) and that grotesque thing that comes down from the ceiling at some point.

The mummy, 7 year old me died a little inside and every night was pretty sleepless. Jesus friggin christ the bit where he launches out of the coffin and screams haunted me.

Uh, Robocop I guess. I saw it the first time when I was 4 years old.

That scene where one of the villains tries to run over robocop with a truck but misses and instead runs straight through a large vat filled with industrial toxic waste and he just clambers out of the carwreck afterwards with his hair falling out and his skin all boiling and molten and hanging off his fingertips.

That one kind of scarred me a little I guess. Sure it was over the top and all, but it just looked so scary and painful the way he got all deformed by the injuries and could barely walk.

But hey, I turned out pretty okay in the end. Im a living, breathing example of the fact that "video violence" doesn't have to fuk you up mentally and turn you into a psychotic killer.

If a kid can watch a pretty gory and violent flick like robocop at the age of four without going nuts, I don't think there's much of a risk that any kid will.

Barney, don't laugh and here me out.

As a kid I couldn't comprehend the T-Rex singing with kids, I always feared he would eat them or something (I saw Jurrassic park as well during that same period) yeah....
