I'll take this opportunity to shamelessly plug a favorite group of mine in an under-represented genre.

Here's a link to Heart of Courage, one of many great songs by Two Steps from Hell (classifed in iTunes as Classical):

This!

Two Steps From Hell, Immediate Music, X-Ray Dog, and any like them. I love them so very much.

Plus I have a large collection of film scores too, mostly from Hans Zimmer. I just love instrumental/orchestral music.

Anything which is good. I don't restrict myself to not enjoying something because it's from a particular genre. Sure, there are some genres I find myself liking more than others, but I can like anything from Johnny Cash to AC-DC, from Linkin Park to Beethoven. Though my preference in music will depend massively on how I'm feeling.

Maybe that makes me a boring and indecisive person...

You have a Rena Ryugu avatar and you like Linkin Park and Metric - how are we not best friends on this site?!?!? xD

Seriously though, that is pretty awesome. Out of interest, what are your thoughts on Linkin Park's later stuff?

Anyway, on-topic, I tend to prefer indie rock, alternative rock, and folk, mainly. That being said, I will listen to most things with an open mind, though aside from some Dragonforce songs and Tenacious D I have yet to find any metal that I like. And hip-hop is like a curse to my ears. Favourite bands, probably...

Hurts
Florence and the Machine
Ellie Goulding
Coldplay
Gorillaz
Noah and the Whale
Reverend and the Makers
Kasabian
Metric
Blood Red Shoes
Panic! At The Disco
Cobra Starship
You Me At Six
Lostprophets
Esben and the Witch
Warpaint
Bloc Party
Marina and the Diamonds
Take That
Scouting for Girls
The Courteeners
The Temper Trap
The Big Pink
Iron and Wine
Sky Larkin
Muse
Paramore
Two Door Cinema Club

Yeah, it's a long list...

Make certain to have your volume turned up for the last song on the list, as it starts out exceptionally quiet...

Punk-Rise Against, Green Day, Offspring, Bad Religion
Alternative-Linkin Park, Rage Against the Machine
Reggae-HK & Les Salidimides, Bob Marley
Hardcore Punk-Sick of It All
Grunge-Seether, Nirvana
Metal-System of A Down, Slipknot, The Killing Tree.

I generally like faster music, stuff but I also like some reggae, especially this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqggr1aU6Ok
And I'm not quite sure where I'd put Gogol Bordello, except in Awesome.

Rock & metal in all its glorious variations are awesome, I'm also a fan of punk, reggae, ska & even a little rap every now & then. Can't stand R&B & hip hop & pop crap. Oh yeah country music can go away as well, I heard somewhere, i can't remember exactly when or where, but people that listen to country music are more likely to commit suicide than people that listen to ANY other type of music.

I feel compelled to reply simply because I don't know what you would call this type of music. I'm very much into music by groups like Two Steps From Hell, X-Ray Dog, and E.S Posthumous. Basically, it's classical music on speed. This is movie trailer music, with big sweeping orchestral sounds, epic progressions, and usually a synaptic blowing finale. But X-Ray Dog also has a large catalog of rock, rap, jazz, blues, almost all instrumental.

Mainly thrash metal and Swedish trallpunk.
I started listening to heavy metal about ten years ago and spread my wings a bit during the years. Hung out with a lot of people who were real thrashers and eventually I embraced the style as well, discovering more and more amazing bands.

The trallpunk begun just a few years ago when I heard a song on Youtube. If you're not Swedish you won't understand it, but I'll link it anyways!

Awesome thrash

Awesome trallpunk

I have mixed tastes. Rock, alternative, metal, goth, industrial, and lately a little chiptune.

My 4 favorite bands are Linkin Park, Goo Goo Dolls, Pink Floyd, Ian Van Dahl

So I'm pretty much all over the place. I also like Outkast and Soilwork. I honestly just like a good song I don't care what genre it is. Though I admittedly find it difficult to listen to most county music.

Experimental electronic stuff. Industrial and IDM are old standbys, favorite wise, but I'll give anything time and listen to a big long list of entries of other musics, too.

On top of that, we have very similar birthdays. :D

I liked New Divide at least, so that's saying something.

I listen to metal, heavy rock. Right now I'm listening to different kinds of metal, very amazing. I don't like the screamo music.

I listen to Dance (House) music although I prefer the early 00's song (I'm out of touch with modern dance music) like Stardust- Music Sound Better With You and Jpop (e.g. Utada Hikaru and Ayumi Hamasaki). I also listen to anime and games soundtrack.
As for why I listen to these, well I don't know why other than I like it and they got good melody and beats.

I listen to Metal, Electronic (mostly Hardcore and Trance), Rock, Videogame and Anime OSTs, J-Pop etc. I'm a metalhead and a gabber. ^-^
Funny how I've always usually levitated to the heavier side of music genres.

Haha, did you sign up just to say that!? XD

Welcome to The Escapist! Stay out of the basement.

Although I'm not much of a metal fan, I'd just like to say that I would have mentioned Mastodon but my game of iTunes Shuffle didn't allow me to lol. Mastodon are one of the few metal bands that I truly love.

The Melvins were pretty cool, but the vocals aren't for me...
