I listen primarily to a lot of electronic music, jam/improg, and some progressive rock & metal. Playlists lately have been dominated by electro, glitch/trip-hop, dubstep. Too many artists and producers to really name. Also love me a healthy dose of jamtronica/electronica/electrorock acts, like Lotus, Pendulum, STS9, live Infected Mushroom etc.-- Actually I probably listen to that kind of music a lot more often than most anything. I'm addicted to that unique, slightly indescribable kind of energy the music has, especially played/recorded live.

Alot of Beatles, Metroid Metal, and the occasional dubstep (or techno or whatever you want to call it). That's pretty much it; and I could live on that for the rest of my life.

Since you have put a classification between classical and baroque music, I'd like to point out that Schumann and Brahms are from the Romantic period. The most important composers from the classical period are Mozart, Haydn, Schubert and Beethoven (although they transitioned to the Romantic)... Wait.

Man I should stop being such a classical music nerd...
Hmmm... woops, I actually started a third line for 'Romantic', realised my mistake and removed the wrong thing.

Still... what's wrong with being a classical music nerd?! I'm a Bach nerd! XD
What are your favorite Bach works? I'm more of a Chopin and Rachmaninoff nerd...

Im ashamed of all you metal fans out there. Not one mention of 2 of the greatest metal bands ever to walk the earth :L
Mastodon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BiOITZHC8I

and

The Melvins
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAl3A2pYFhM
Haha, did you sign up just to say that!? XD

Welcome to The Escapist! Stay out of the basement.

Although I'm not much of a metal fan, I'd just like to say that I would have mentioned Mastodon but my game of iTunes Shuffle didn't allow me to lol. Mastodon are one of the few metal bands that I truly love.

The Melvins were pretty cool, but the vocals aren't for me...
Actually I've been on here quite a while, just not much a forum poster :p. And yeah Melvins are a bit of an odd band, not for everyone lol.

Finally got round/remembered to reply...:

Fav Bach stuff includes:

Best piece of music written for the organ... ever!

One of the few pieces of harpsichord music I like played on the piano.

A lesser known prelude for solo harpsichord, but this is probably my favourite (by sheer play-count!) movement for the instrument.

Probably the most expressive piece of music from the baroque era that I've ever heard. I've played it on a couple occasions, and damn, it's difficult!

I find this interpretation to be a bit rushed, but it is one of the most technically difficult violin pieces ever written (most notably from 2:16 onwards, because virtually everyone cheats during that three string part, and I had to cheat majorly to get a decent sound out).

Can you tell I really like harpsichord music?! =P But no, this is quite a stately piece and is brilliant to be heard live with spaced harpsichords.

Having said that, this I do enjoy as well (to pick up on your interests):

I know everyone goes on about 10-4 (which, despite the playing notes saying don't use the pedal, I oddly prefer it with pedal work), but this one has so much more breadth of expression hidden beneath the grand arpeggios... or at least, I think so.

I go through phases of music. Every once in a while it changes to something different. Right now, I've been listening to a lot of Pendulum and Streetlight Manifesto back and forth. Recently I went through a phase where I listened to nothing but bluegrass, Scissor Sisters, and folk music. Before that I got hard into Kendrick Lamar and the Dillinger Escape Plan.

Basically I pick from a couple of unrelated styles and listen to them constantly until I get burned out on both. But I try to listen to every kind of music. I've never found a genre I didn't like. I think that even if you hate most of the songs in a genre that you'll find at least one that you like.

Nice listening collection of music. I prefer more the Chopin etudes Op. 10 No 3, 4, 6, 9 and 12 and Op 25 No 2, 6, 9 and 12.
Of Bach I really love his Concerto No.5 in F minor BWV1056, his Double Concerto BWV 1043, Herr, unser Herrscher from the Johannes Passion BWV 245, his Prelude and Fugue No 12 in F minor BWV 881 from WTC2, etc.

So you play piano? Me too. I have been playing for two years, and I aim to enter the Conservatory of Music in Melbourne in another 2 years time.

I try not to restrict myself too much in terms of genre, but I guess my favorite music is in the area of classic metal/hard rock.

Most of my favourite piano music is usually Schumann/Brahms/Beethoven (of the Romantic ilk). Oddly, I don't like Classical piano that much... As for Bach, I'm not a particular fan of his religious music, preferring his secular chamber music. :S

Yup... well, I used to. Stopped when I left high school, though that was still eleven years of piano playing... but I was never that good (lazy...!). My sister was jealous of the fact that I got distinction on grade 8 (highest grade on the highest tier 1, undergraduate pre-conservatory qualifications in the UK) on my first attempt (she needed two).

Still, I was lucky in one respect: my school had a harpsichord, which... was... awesome!

I preferred playing the violin, and I got lazy with that, too, since school politics basically prevented me from being the concert master when most people knew that I blatantly should've been. So, I went to viola and sulked there for two years!

i listen to country and dubstep. It is indeed a pretty weird combo but works well for me. I hate most pop and rap.

A high proportion of what's on my iPod is either Rise Against, Nickleback or Breaking Benjamin, although there are a multitude of other bands kicking around.

I listen mainly to metal, and some of its sub-genres like thrash metal, power metal, symphonic metal, progressive metal and melodic death metal.
