What music would you make your children listen to?

Now, I understand most people here are not yet in age of having children (neither am I), but that doesn't mean the paternal instincts don't exist, and indeed, kick in at certain points. So try digging it out, and tell me, if you had, or if you do have a child, what sort of music would you put on so that he'd develop a refined (in one's opinion) musical taste?

I would go for a mix, I'd make him listen to classical music (because they all should) and Enya when he's sleeping, and a good selection of good rock when he's awake and ready to kick some ass (because my children WILL KICK YOUR ASS!)

How about you?

Boy, girl, doesn't matter. They will listen to system of a down all the time and they will love it as much as me. If that is even possible.

This, and I make them learn to love classic rock and hate everything pop/hip hop related.

I'd let them listen to what they want but I'd always try and let them hear classic rock, electronic, some jazz music too. If they decide they don't like it I'll tie them up in a chair until they can sing along to at least 10 Aerosmith songs that's cool.

Jonathan Coulton, his music is fun and creative so mabey they might like it. But its up too them they can listen to whatever they want as long as it is not rap/hip hop, or pop. This is a indie famliy danm it (smacks kid whos was caught listing to snoop dog).

Don't have kid btw just to clear any potintal confusion.

I will do what my parents and brothers did with their kids. Play the music I like in situations where it's appropriate to play music and eventually they will make their own decisions. I'll just make sure they don't turn in to one of those people who say things like
"This album changed my life" "It's like they wrote this song about me" "This makes you think" or any of that nonsense.
I always groan when people say things in that vein.

I'd personally like for them to hear to whatever music they want. So, I would try to get them to listen to some great songs that span all genres, but I might be a bit biased towards showing them the goodness of classic rock and classical music.

I probably wouldn't force my own tastes upon them but I would probably at least get them to listen to some of the all time greats like the Beatles just so that they don't fall into obscurity in the next generation

I would play a mix of classical, progessive and funk when I was around them (were talking about babies to toddlers right?) I would want them to have an appreciation for dynamics, melody, harmony and a beat that is no less complex than a heart beat. That rules out everything I've heard on the radio in canberra save for the occasional classic like hotel california. I like Power metal too but I cant imagine infants really digging it.

Classic Rock, Jazz and Romantic pieces.

Pretty much anything from the 19th Century to 1970, really, so long as it's good. Gotta have a kid with taste.

I'd leave it until they're old enough to pick for themselves, until then, just background music.
That recalls the time Electric Wizard was referred to by another Escapist as "suitable background music for videogames" :p

Hey, Beethoven was deaf, and he was amazing. Just make sure you put it really close to them so that they can actually feel the vibrations.

Cheesy gay pop and some beaty-house. Gotta groom them for the club scene so that they invite me out with them when they grow up.
