It's not too long now until we arrive in the 8th generation of games consoles, and i'm sure there will be an array of new features and services available to allow for a more unique and advanced experience. However, what new features would you want to see?

Cake/cupcake/muffin dispensers.

EDIT: In serious mode now: I'd like to see a system that allows developers to update titles easily and cost effectively. I may just be tired of the sequel trains and/or want to see more out of specific and original titles, but if that were possible (and I'm aware how difficult it may be), I think the next gen console would make a great step forward.

I can also say that I would like to see more interaction, but not any of this 'Kinect' for the Xbox jokes. Something that you can feel around you, have it respond. Something that would make you feel like you were under fire in a shooter, or cutting leaves in a gardening game... :)

Not so much about hardware requirements but having console games made to be easily usable with mouse and keyboard. If the industry is trying to push for more console content then at least let people have the option for using the mouse and board.

100% good games and a full-refund guarantee if the game sucks balls.
I'm allowed to dream. Q_Q /so much money down the drain on shitty games...

no RRoD or YLoD from the start
less emphisis on squeezing multiplayer into everygame, some dont need it.
PS3 style HHD upgrade ability across the board.
upgradeable RAM if the generation is going to last over 5 years
less emphisis on graphics (the next step is photo realism and we're practically there any how) and more on gameplay
full backwards compatibility, even if its only emulator based

Built in video capture.
Hmmm yes. I also approve of this idea.

How about better (read: quieter) cooling systems as well? PS3's nearly there.

Fully supported mouse/keyboard fonctionality in the games.
Thats mostly what a base my choice around when chosing between pc and console for a game, and having a machine dedicated to gaming, without the the big differences between it and the PC would be a really good incentive for be to get the games for the console.
Adding to that, support for the modding community would also be nice.
IMO those are the two major advantages the PC have over consoles, and why i prefer a lot of games on the PC.

i would love to see a modular system, so if i wanted to i could add a cd changer system or upgrade the ram/CPU with little issue, full backwards compatibility and a media center function

This is an absolute must.

I would also like a new, larger and faster storage medium but failing that, bluray will have to do.
I also wouldn't mind paying $1000-$1500 for a new console on release-day provided it has the hardware to justify the price tag. I want a console that can keep a close second with computer for at least a couple of years.

Full, complete backwards compatibility as in, play the old games without any strange things happening to the sound quality or, picture. Otherwise I fear the new generation. Nintendo seems to have completely abandoned the idea of the traditional controller outside of its handhelds and, I fear the next wave of consoles will be the first to feature things like games that require you to be online at all times to play them and, triple-A games that can only be bought digitally. I fear the future at this point. Excuse me while I cry in a corner and stroke my copy of Link to the Past...

I would like to see games that are playable locally and a general step back from the requirement of online but it sure ain't going to happen

You know that thing in Tron where the lase digitizes you into the actual digital world?

Yeah....THAT.

Otherwise, I'm actually quite happy with the current gen and feel that anything more in the next 5 years might be a bit TOO much.

None. I want no new features. I am totally and completely against another generation of consoles. Any new features they want to add should be external hardware, such as the Kinect, PSwii[small](that move crap)[/small], or Wii motion plus.

A free cookies and milk dispensor every time I successfully navigate down a hallway.

Also, out of date milk, skim milk, and Canada style milk in a bag are all unacceptable.

Game cartridges that you can fix by blowing on them. Ive never had a NES game cease to work, but have had 60 dollar 360 disks crap out on me.
