What novel should they make into a game?

A video game version of Preacher by Garth Ennis could be pretty cool, something like a prequel that doesn't follow the main story.

I also think that in the right hands, "All Quiet On the Western Front" could be translated into some kind of hybrid stealth/ FPS. The developers would have their hands full trying to keep the game true the bleakness and horrors of the war, but I definitely think it could be done.

The Dresden files, either as an RPG where you play as a Warden (wizard cop guy thing), or an independent story penned by Jim Butcher himself, like a side story set between some of the novels.

Another one: Anything in the HP Lovecraft literature universe.

And my last two: The Night Angel trilogy and also John Dies at the End.

Hmmm, The Hunger Games series, if made right, would be pretty decent.

Pretty much anything made by Garth Nix, Rick Riordan, Eion Colfer, Joseph Delaney, and John Flannagan.

Don't know if you could make a good game based off of alot of the novels out there. You could either make it good enough that we don't realize we already know the outcome, or just base the game in the novel's world. Plenty of novels out there for that. I'd pick up a Dragonlance one or an HP Lovecraft one, something pulp detective, starting out like LA Noire or Batman and going insane from there.

And "Twilight: Vampire Hunter"? oh I'm there.

I think the Dresden files could make a good MMO. There are quite a few classes people could be and between books 4 and 12 there is a magical world war between the white council of wizards and the vampire red court. And I am not talking crappy twilight type vampires. These are cool, pure evil, bat like monsters that can take human form vampires.

the only problem with this through is that there is no way to stop wizards being over powered. plus anyone who has read the books would want to be a wizard well, just read one. The stuff they can do is crazy.

I would like to see Eragon turned into a game. Not the movie version (Spare me the movie version), but one that actually looks like someone read the whole book and didn't just look at sparknotes.
Pretty sure they made that game.

... Acutally, I'm pretty sure I owned that game for the DS. It was called Eragon.

OT: I'd kinda like to see an MMO of the Redwall world. Or maybe a really nice open RPG set not in the plot of the book, but in the same world.

or maybe a Dark tower game.

... Though a book using The Talisman concept of the Twinner verse would be cool.

Much as I like Anthony's works, I would vote for Prachett. Discworld is way funnier to me.
This.

A Dresden Files game styled after L.A. Noire, but with deeper combat. God knows Butcher deserves the money.

Ooh, Codex Alera RTS with third-person action hero units!

My novel... which isn't finished, but I keep thinking up movie and game ideas.

They'd better bring me in on it... D:<

The Stand by Stephen King would be cool, if they could do it right.

The Redwall series would also be cool.

Without Remorse by Tom Clancy. Only, push the story to more modern times, and make gameplay like Assassin's Creed. Scope out then kill the targets. Also the detective work involved in tracking down the top dog. Maybe add some flashback sections back to when John Kelly was a SEAL so that CoD players get off.
This sounds awesome! How about teeth of the tiger, hitman style, better rewards for being the silent assasin etc. digging clues for the next target.

Haven't read all these pages because I'm really tired so I don't know if these have been mentioned but the Edge Chronicles series by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell, they're really interesting and despite being written for children (10+ really) they are one of my favourite series of all time. Plus pirates in flying boats, flying pirate boats , as in sails, rigging, masts, the works.

A game set in the Discworld universe by Terry Pratchett or the Xanth universe by Piers Anthony would be awesome in my opinion. Both are quite expansive worlds with plenty of opportunities for interesting gameplay. The satirical nature of either series would lend it's self well to a Fable like game.
fuck i never thought of a discworld game, that sounds epic!

so many possibilities...
i think it would be best suited to an oblivion/skyrim-ey game

I remember pitching a game on a similar thread a couple months ago. A Discworld MMO wherein you chose who you want to be, where you want to be from, what you want to do. Thieve's Guild, Assassin's Guild, Musician's Guild, Unseen University, simple life up in the Ramtops, simpler life down on the Djel or maybe you just want to do some PVP in the Mended Drum. Just remember to keep your coin purse tightly sealed around C.M.O.T. Dibbler. Maybe The Shades would serve as a larger PVP arena...

As for something different...I am tempted to mention the Darth Bane trilogy but I fear what it would become.
That sounds quite awesome. My idea was more of a Monkey Island, meets Fable, meets Trine based around Rincewind and some of his companions.

I would also hesitantly agree with the Darth Bane idea though I certainly fear what Lucas would do with it.
There was a discworld game based around Rincewind. And it did lean heavily on the Monkey Island side of things.

Hasn't been done yet, I'm afraid. However, there was a pretty good game a while ago that was a mix of "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" and "The Shadow Out of Time". You should check it out, just be wary of the annoying glitches.

OT: We get all these great games with Lovecraftian enemies and themes (there's nothing wrong with it), but why not anything in the nature of Edgar Allen Poe? There was that "Dear Esther" mod for Half Life 2, but other than that, there isn't much in his horror theme.
Also, we need more of those great Sherlock Holmes games.
