So escapist, what inspires this is that I picked up Star Wars KOTOR at the steam sale and am playing it. The only experience with this game I had was youtube videos and people saying it was awesome. When I first saw the combat on youtube I thought that it looked awful and there's no way that's fun, but when I booted it up and started playing the combat felt tight fluent and satisfying. As well as some nice cutscenes that are really good even though it's an older game. So back to the point. What game would do you still think is good. Factoring graphics, gameplay, and fetures you think make it stand out.

Super Metroid has aged to perfection. I played it for the first time this spring, and would easily put it up against the best modern games.

Crash Bandicoot, the original series and Team Racing. I still love playing them a fair bit.

I still have no problem going back to Final Fantasy VII.
Age of Empires 2 has aged very well too.

Probably what I'd say has aged the best is The Curse of Monkey Island. 1997 and it still looks great.

Depends on what you define as old. I think Wind Waker is old and good but many people don't. I think Super Metroid is old and good but many people would think that's just middle aged. If I had a category I could name you a game from it but just generally "old", I dunno there are lots of 'old' games that look good.

Thief 3 is still playable and very enjoyable.
I think it's a '04 title.
I will find you in your sleep, Eidos Montreal team, if you won't do Thief 4 properly, and I WILL play the saw so you couldn't sleep. EVER.

Megaman Legends 2, Super Mario 64, and Half-Life. There are a few others that didn't age as well as others but some like Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries and Counter Strike that have recieved upgrades to keep them running strong.

Kingdom Hearts.

Amazing how well that game has aged, not just in gameplay, but in graphics as well. That game is 9 years old, and it still looks fantastic.

To be honest, I still have fun with the old platformers. Give me only an hour to kill and I'll play any of the original Megaman games, give me two hours and I'll see what I can do in Castlevania 2. Give me a day, and I'll play for you the Star Tropics. A week? Contra WITHOUT CHEATS AND ON HARD! A year... now that's just being silly

I dunno. I mostly play older games, so I might not be the best person to ask about this, considering I like most of the games I play...

EDIT: I will say this though, there is no RPG experience on the market today that is like Baldur's Gate 2. The game still rox sox no matter how crap-tastic it's graphics are.

Soul Calibur, which I'll still play it ahead of it's sequels. Such a beautifully crafted game.
Going slightly more primitive, Mario 64 and Ocarina are still highly playable

and Oregon Trail.
Which Oregon trail?
.... They had more than one? All I have is the one I played in third grade... 1998.

It's so much better now that I can actually figure out how not to die of dysentery.

Medieval II and Rome Total War, especially with their respective mods, Stainless Steel and Europa Barborium.
