Okay, personally I think things are starting to get ridiculous.
The stimulus package for one, but the Dragon Age add on are on sale for OUTRAGEOUS prices.
In the case of the xbox, once you start to add on the cost of a harddrive, xbox live, an adaptor, you could easily buy a new game anyway!
I understand the price for DA was because there was so much in the add on, but why not just have that IN THE GAME available to everyone. It just goes to show the greed of some people.

Anyway, how much do you think is the acceptable highest price for an add on DLC?

it's not greed, it's business. I'd rather be programming for a full game then still have a job after release as I add and debug new content. The alternative is workin ga hell of a lot longer on the game and it could be a flop and me laid off.

I'm by no means the biggest fan of DLC, but I see them as a sort of digital distribution version of expansion packs in the case of DA. I remember paying upwards of 40 dollars for expansion packs as a kid and I think that DLC shouldn't exceed the cost of 1/4 of the game(15 dollars). And if developers feel the content is worth more, they should just throw it on a disc.

What Dragon Age add on are you talking about exactly? I bought the collector's edition and then downloaded the return to Ostagar one... money well spent.

MW 2's 5 maps for $15 is a complete rip-off though.

Also, unless you buy the arcade every XBox comes with a hard drive.... and the wireless adaptor is only for those who want to use it. I keep mine plugged in, it works better that way.

And why is it that people who can afford a next-gen console and LIVE subscription turn around and ***** about the price of games?

0 dollars because I don't think there should ever be DLC ever.

I hate that concept of it.

Is 60 goddamn dollars not enough for a full game you greedy pricks!!??

Think he's talking about Awakening, which is an expansion rather than DLC, though I'm not really sure where the line is drawn anymore.

As for "what price is acceptable": One which adequately reflects the worth I personally place on what is on offer. It's impossible to say because it varies from game to game, DLC to DLC. I might pay £100 for a piece of DLC if it happens to be three times as large as the actual game and come with so much content I need to change my pants.

I like the idea of DLC, but it should be a cheap price for a large extension to the game, taking Modern Warfare for an example is enough to make me want to eat my own shoes, but instead taking for example, Crash Course (Left 4 Dead - Valve), I'd happily spend upto £3 on that, to 1) Give the developers a pat on the back, and 2) Get more from a game I enjoy.

DLC and Expansions are different things, you expect a hell of a lot from an expansion in proportion to the price, but DLC is meant to be a small nugget of happyness :)

There's a hell of a lot of DLC out at the moment, costing around £1 to be able to ride around in Monster Truck or play with a Flame Thrower, adding no real extra value to the game.

Well, Awakening is definitely an expansion, because it does not require the first disc to play, nor does it re-use much of the original's environments. It's an expansion. Considering I paid $90 for my collector's edition and then was able to turn around and trade it in for $40, basically getting Awakening for free... I was happy with the price.

Yesterday I noticed that Railworks on sale and - remembering how often I see the DLC advertised on Steam - I decided to check out how much it would call cost.

Not counting the £35(£30 on sale) actual game, all the Railworks DLC off steam comes to £339.65 ($521.50 U.S.). For, what I can only guess, is a bunch of trains.

You could buy a brand new PS3 and a few games for that sort of money. :|

It came on a disc as well so it isn't technically DLC. Also it was awesome IMO.

It really depends on the DLC. The latest DLC I played was Dark Forest for Dante's Inferno. Luckily I got it free but any suckers out there who actually pay for it are paying way to much. Not only is it unbelievably short (under 10 minutes short), not only is the longest cutscene an ad for the next DLC pack that hasn't been released yet, but it screws with the continuity of the story.

The special edition gave the 1st dlc pack away free.
It's going to be a controversial thing anyway, but DA is a great game, with or without DLC.
The DLC is worth it in my opinion, and it is always optional.
I think people need to quit bitching and realise that nobody forces them to buy download content.

I can understand the beef if people play a game that is only 5 hours long and the DLC adds something that is clearly missing, but there are no games I have played like that.
The most expensive DLC I have bought has been totally worth it.

The Oblivion extras
GTA4 LATD and TBOGT
DA

All the above I would have been happy to buy in a store, the dlc aspect is a convienient delivery method.

In answer to your question then there is no set price, just like you cant really say what should be the price of a game, because that all depends on the quality of the game.
Ive paid full price and been utterly disappointed, and bought a budget game (Earth 2043) and would have been happy to pay double.

<3 Valve, never change?
This. Dear god, this. I love you, Valve.

DLC is... Well, I wouldn't say pointless, because there are some good stuffs out there in expansion pack or addon form, but what I'm wondering is why didn't they incorporate the stuff in the game anyway?.
Personally I generally don't buy games until about six months or so after they're released 'cause then I can generally find them hanging around in bins...

So, uh.
DLC that you have to pay for is made by greedy, exploiting dicks who are clearly rather evil.

Didn't the GTA4 DLC have a disc compatriot as well? I'm fairly certain I saw discs for some of the Fallout 3 DLC in shops.

Doesn't always work. While I personally would call Awakening an expansion, I'm still not sure where the line is drawn.

Don't agree with DLC, in my eyes it should be free like it used to be. Some people obviously like paying for it though.

Yes it did. There is a difference though (well for the 360 version anyways). The 2 packs were released seperately as DLC originally. Then later on they put them on disc. Awakenings came out both ways right from the start.
