I use the old, OLD Gillete Atra 2-blade, the Fusion pulls to much but the Atra works well for me
ya an electric is nice, never drawn blood with it. but they do tend to rubThrex said:I like this ansewer but I use an electric I really like it.Aby_Z said:Be man, use a knife!

The blades last a long time though. The money you spend on the Gillete Fusion is well worth it.xmetatr0nx said:Yes, unfortunately the refil cartridges will cost you an arm and a leg...does anyone know why the hell they are so expensive?Orcus_35 said:YOU SIR! are absolutely right!xmetatr0nx said:Gillete Fusion, with the 5 blades. Well of course that's the only real way to shave, but this guy is just starting. Gotta start him out with something more for beginners before we allow him the full amount of manhood that shaving with a chainsaw allows.Khitten said:... Dont be a sissy girl.Aby_Z said:Be a man, use a knife!

Used to use one for about a year, then I switched back to my fusion. They're a damn close shave, and you feel like your balls are no less than ten times bigger than they were before, but if you're prone to any skin problems at all they can be hell on earth.AC10 said:I've been thinking of switching to a straight razor. Anyone on here use one all the time? What I've heard from them were basically
1) Be ready to have a butchered face for like 2 months
2) In the end they're cheaper as the disposables can add up.
3) They're a really good shave once you get good.
true or false?
I'm currently using a Gillette fusion.
Alright, thanks!EntropicBliss said:Used to use one for about a year, then I switched back to my fusion. Should I try the straight razor as my first razor? They seem pretty badass. Does the difference in blade count have any significance? Can a 4 or 5 blade razor like the Fusion shave under the nose since it's so wide? Have you ever used a Panasonic foil shaver? Those seem like the best. Why should a get a mug and brush? What does shaving with the grain mean? Do I need aftershave or gel/paste/soap/cream if I use an electric razor? Sorry for all the questions.EntropicBliss said:I've used pretty much every shaving system out there. Here's my 2 cents:
Straight razor: 100+ man points, and fucking painful if you screw up.
Double Edged razor: Very close shave, cheap cartridges, but are difficult to master.
2-3 blade systems: I prefer the Schicks to the Mach 3s, but they're both decent. Whatever you do, don't get disposable.
4-5 blade systems: The Gillette fusions are the only real options here, at least for me. I personally hate the Schick Titaniums. "Powered" fusions aren't worth the money, imo, and unpowered work fine but don't give you a particularly close shave.
Electric foil shavers: It won't be as close to a shave as a manual, but damn they work well.
Electric rotary shavers: Quick, but I find I have a lot of stubble when I'm done.
Personally I use the Gillette fusion cartridge, but only because they're the only manual razors that haven't caused ingrown hairs. I would use an electric, but my girlfriend complains that my face scratches her when I do, so they're a no-go.
If you're going to get an electric, I'd either get a Braun 7 Series or one of the Philips 8200 series. Shaving under the nose is pretty simple: Just run it under your nose, and it should pretty much take care of the rest.
Btw, a few tips:
1. Get a mug and brush if you can.
2. Shaving paste/soap/cream is generally better than shaving gel (the stuff in the can).
3. Always shave WITH the grain. This doesn't always mean down, because your hair can grow in different directions.
4. Get non-alcoholic aftershave.
5. Get a balm or oil aftershave, if you can.
6. Ask your dad what he uses, because you probably share some hair genes.
No.Oatmeel said:Should I try the straight razor as my first razor? They seem pretty badass.
Maybe.Oatmeel said:Does the difference in blade count have any significance?
Yes.Oatmeel said:Can a 4 or 5 blade razor like the Fusion shave under the nose since it's so wide?
Panasonics are okay, but I prefer Brauns. The reason I prefer them is that panasonics never seem to give the same close shave.Oatmeel said:Have you ever used a Panasonic foil shaver? Those seem like the best.
Using a brush lifts up your hairs before you shave them, meaning you get a closer shave without having to go against the grain. The mug is required to mix the stuff on to the brush.Oatmeel said:Why should a get a mug and brush?
Your hair grows in one direction, called the grain. Shaving with the grain means that you are shaving in the same direction as your hair grows. Shaving against the grain means that you are shaving against the direction that your hair grows. Shaving against the grain gives you a temporarily closer shave, but then results in ingrown hairs.Oatmeel said:What does shaving with the grain mean?
You should always use aftershave, because even an electric razor causes some damage to the skin.Oatmeel said:Do I need aftershave or gel/paste/soap/cream if I use an electric razor?
No worries, that's what we're here for.Oatmeel said:Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks so much. Where can I find a mug and brush and what kind of shaving cream and aftershave should I use with a Gillette Fusion or Mach 3?EntropicBliss said:snip
