I have one grandmother with Alzheimer's, another with terminal cancer, one grandfather with macular degeneration and the remaining grandfather recently had a heart attack and had to have surgery. So I was thinking about the sorts of things that go wrong with your body as you get older and wondering which I would least like to happen to me.

What age related conditions scare you? Personally I think I could deal with just about anything as long as I had my books to escape into so my answer would be going blind or anything that would stop me from being able to read.

Please note that I do not mean dying. I mean all the things that start going wrong with your body as you get older.

I agree. going blind would be the worst thing for me too. I can't imagine a life where i couldn't read. Its my ultimate nightmare

Probably not being to hear as well. I just hope that getting old doesn't make me a nuisance to those around me.

Hm... I wouldn't say any specific sickness at all, but the moment I cannot even go to the toilet by myself, I would rather want to die.

I'd have to say muscular degeneration. If I can't do things for myself and HAVE to have someone do them for me, I get pissed. It would kill me to know I couldn't do anything for myself for the rest of my life.

Loss of memory. My grandfather has this condition and sometimes doesn't remember me. I think that will be the scariest condition to have.

I don't fear going mental, I'm sure ill embrace it.
Blindness would be the worst thing that doesn't include pain, but that's quite rare is it not?

Id say a form of illness that's really slow and painful to kill you.
I've had afew relatives that were ill for so long I don't remember them being the happy jokey people they once were, just the old, in pain ill person they were in the end. I'd prefer to be remembered with happiness instead of being ill.

All this talk of getting old... it's getting me down my love
Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown
This time I'm coming down.........

*ahem*

Mostly I worry because I was left out of the dating circle for the duration of high school so now I'm kind of a freak and outsider of the social circle only occasionally getting invited to do things. I wonder how men in my position manage to approach the girl of their dreams.

Everything. The entire age-concept disturbs me. When I get old, I can't live the life I do now, and that troubles me.

I think that obviously it's horrible but it is probably much worse for the people around you. I don't really know how much self awareness you have once you've gotten to the point where you can't remember people.

The desease aspect honestly doesn't scare me that much. Dying in and of itself isn't really what worries me, it's more the thought of dying to soon that causes me grief and worry.

Honestly what scares me the most is leaving my life/dreams/whatever unfulfilled much longer, I'm already 25 and my ability to make my life worth living shrinks every year. It's a small shrink, but I already feel like I've wasted 7 years of my life with my directionless laziness and now I'm wondering what I can do to make life worthwhile before I'm old. Afterall, middle age is only 15 years away.

The speed of times passage is the scariest thing I suppose, before you know it you're 25 and engaged to be married, then I'll be worrying about my retirement and then I'll be worrying about my health (more than I already am). It just goes to damn fast.

No more sex.

I'm not sure I plan on getting old. Its kinda lame. I think 28-35 years is enough time to be on this earth

As you get older you are more aware of your mortality, when things start going wrong, even more so.

I think it's the actual fact of getting old scares me.
The moment anything starts to go wrong I'll be terrified, they all scare me.

Once I can't look after myself, I'll kill myself, because I wouldn't want to live then.

Totally this. I love the fact that I have a steady hand from years of painting models and a lot of photography. Getting Parkinson's or something of that nature is a horrible thought, as suddenly I would be unable to even lift a cup of coffee without needing it to be quite empty to avoid spillage D:

That and dementia. Forgetting who my family was, why I'm there, seeing strange things that aren't really there etc.

Not being to move freely. Arthritis. Blindness. Mental problems or diffuculties. Why couldnt we be born old and just get younger?
