Okay, so as some of you may know, I'm home schooled and have been for a little over a year. I've enjoyed it much more than regular school and I plan on sticking with it until I get a job or go to college or whatever. But today, I got a letter.

The letter is from a group that I've never heard of called People to People. The letter mentions me and uses my real name and it says they know I'm home schooled and (obviously) where I live so its not just some random crap thats sent to just whoever lives at the current house. The letter was talking about becoming an exchange student.

I didn't think thats how you become an exchange student, but whatever. It says, and I'm quoting this, "To the parents of Julian King, Julian is invited to travel and study in Australia in the summer of 2010...All students must be invited annually, so we are pleased to offer Julian this once in a life time opportunity to travel on a 2010 program."

I don't know why I got this.

So my question is, what do my fellow Escapists make of it? I have no idea what to make of it. I'm not 100% convinced that this is for real. Although I have always wanted to go to Australia.

So what do you guys think?

Could you take the 'fuck' out of the title? We don't mind cursing when it's reasonable, but not so much in a title where people can't avoid it should the mood take them.

Also, (providing it's legit) come to Australia! Our spiders don't like the taste of foreigners as much!

Investigate it and if you its legit, do it. We'd be happy to have you, unless you're an American, Canadian, Pom, New Zealander... Okay you can come down even if you are.

Does it have a logo or a company name? If it does, look it up. I'd also ask your parents and tutor(s) if they enrolled you to do anything like this. If you can't find anything or something genuinely doesn't feel right, DON'T DO IT.

That's just it, it doesn't. It just says Australia. Thats why I'm suspicious about it.

My mother worked for People to People for a few years. If I recall correctly, it's a group that mainly takes groups of high school students to other countries for a few weeks, usually with a couple employees and several teachers, my 8th grade teacher being one of them. My mother managed one of the trips to China.

So no, it's not a trap.

wait exchange? someones going to be homeschooled in your house? Oh my god they're trying to replace you! don't do it!! But really investigate people to people if it seems legit go for it. Wait how long is the offer for a year? a few months? what? because if it's long term you won't get to play your favorite violent games there! that would suck

It says I'm invited to travel and study in Australia in the summer of 2010, so I guess just for the summer, but thats 3 months too long away from videogames!!

Pfft! Australia is a big goddamn place.
I say inquire... but if they try to send you to Western Australia, South Australia, ACT, Tasmania or the Northern Territory... Don't go (they are somewhat less interesting).
New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria are not bad though.
Hmmmm I hope no one reading this lives in the places I said not to go...

It's a legit offer, as I got one also. And I've my sister has a friend who used People to People to be an exchange student. But the tuition fees are rather pricey. I think mine was $6000 at the least.

And the trip only lasts for two weeks, IIRC
