Investigate it and if you its legit, do it. We'd be happy to have you, unless you're an American, Canadian, Pom, New Zealander... Okay you can come down even if you are.
Why not canadians?[/quote]

I second the question; what's the beef with Canucks, other than us wearing 'Roots' athletic clothing during the Olympics? I know it was funny for you folks, but most people didn't know about it until after the fact.

Side note: I understand drinking Foster's is the fastest way to mark yourself a tourist... any truth to that?

Ive been on a trip to Europe with this group, and my sister just got back from one in Australia. It is the single most worthwhile experience of my life up until this point. It costs around $6,000, but is relatively easy to fund raise for, at least in my area. Go on the trip, you definitely won't regret it.

EDIT: Oh, and i forgot to mention that the Australia trip is IMO the best trip this organization offers. You get to do some crazy shit, like learn to surf, scuba dive in the great barrier reef, go through an alligator farm at midnight, and tons of other stuff. Its sponsored by the government, i want to say it was founded by Eisenhower? Could be wrong. But anyways, it's definitely legit and BY FAR worth the six grand. I raised $4000 of it in a town of 2000 people, so I'm betting you can cover it.

They probably didn't pull your name at random, they probably either bought it from some marketing company or may have simply pulled it from public school enrollment records.

First, I've got my reasons. Second, I was just kidding. We love Canadians down here (at least more than the other three mentioned), Canadians are just to damn friendly not to like. I was just seeing if anyone would bight.

And to answer your side note, yes, only tourists drink Foster, ironic since I find many drink it to try to blend in. Its foul stuff anyway, I know very few who actually enjoy the taste. You'd be better off drinking Tooheys, since not only do the locals drink it, but its one of the best beers on the market.

Simple. Ring the number on the letter, or do an internet search for the company name and do some research.

On the plus side Australia kicks ass! Been here for almost a year, and I'm leaving in Nov to go back to sunny old England!

If you have an Xbox, that'll help as it's by far the most popular console here!

I am the only person who hates traveling? Everything I could ever want is here in Seattle, WA, USA.
I like traveling, but only with people I know, which is why I don't think I'm gonna go to this.

In Australia with a bunch of people i don't know, with no videogames, and not knowing the place I'm going or these people who sent me this? No thanks.
There are video games.

What that arsehole said was a lie. Yes, Gears of War II was slightly toned down. But if Yahtzee and Doomsday Arcade can still manage, you can too.

You will regret this.

Okay, so as some of you may know, I'm home schooled and have been for a little over a year. I've enjoyed it much more than regular school and I plan on sticking with it until I get a job or go to college or whatever. But today, I got a letter.

The letter is from a group that I've never heard of called People to People. The letter mentions me and uses my real name and it says they know I'm home schooled and (obviously) where I live so its not just some random crap thats sent to just whoever lives at the current house. The letter was talking about becoming an exchange student.

I didn't think thats how you become an exchange student, but whatever. It says, and I'm quoting this, "To the parents of Julian King, Julian is invited to travel and study in Australia in the summer of 2010...All students must be invited annually, so we are pleased to offer Julian this once in a life time opportunity to travel on a 2010 program."

I don't know why I got this.

So my question is, what do my fellow Escapists make of it? I have no idea what to make of it. I'm not 100% convinced that this is for real. Although I have always wanted to go to Australia.

So what do you guys think?
Its a very legit program, don't get so worked up.:/

Becoming an exchange student is extreamly advantageous. It looks GREAT on any collage application.

Plus, traveling to another country and learning another culture is a worthwhile experience that you will look back on your whole life.

Its all around a great thing to do.

I'd take it. Even if they send you to some smaller place that isn't quite as grand or extravagant as you'd like, there would probably be a lot to learn. I'm a homeschooler like you (okay, WAS a homeschooler, going into college now) and I'd flip at the opportunity to go to another country.

And hey, maybe you'd meet some of our fellow Escapists there! ;)

Just using Gears II as an example, and I mean, regret not coming to Australia.

If I were to accept an offer to a place that I always wanted to go my paranoia would get the better of me while I was there.

Hey guys, back off. He's right that he would have no videogames, you aren't allowed to bring a system and it wouldnt fit in his suitcase anyways. And besides, it's only a 3 week trip
