Today I saved two civs from extinction and they weren't even grateful lol. By that I mean capturing and giving back multiple cities that belonged to a civ that got wiped out. They were still pissed at me for being a warmonger, what the hell? If I bring you back from extinction you better be super thankful stupid AI.

Also when you team up to fight a civ they hate you when the fighting is over and they settle right by me when their capital is on the other side of the continent so they get mad that I'M THE ONE EXPANDING.

The AI needs a serious overall with a something that tells you what your diplomatic standing is with the other civs like in Civ IV

This is why I kill them all, ungrateful bastards. I built the Manhattan project and are now demolishing my opponents still in the Renaissance and Industrial Era... lol. I must say though that Nuking Nagasaki and almost all of India was kinda fun...

Am I a horrible person??!?!

I was going for culture win with Egypt on the largest map and the two civs next to me got wiped by Alexander, so while I was waiting for policy points I did some liberating otherwise yea I usually go for domination win.

It gets really annoying when you try and negotiate with them. It's easier to convince a sturdy wall to fall over than to get another civ to help you, if only for the fact that taking down a wall with your voice(with enough time)is possible.

The penalty for having a border with someone can be too much. I was going for a diplomatic victory in my last game so sold one of my cash draining puppet cities to a civ who had been friendly for a long time. Wasn't long before he started complaining about my army and not accepting defensive treaties before attacking one of my city states. With a typically useless attack of all naval units. Another city state I protected from another civ by surrounding it with units so the number one city couldn't take it down but that didn't stop them wasting their time surrounding it and bombarding it for many turns. This was on emperor. Still a good game.

Yeah, it's pretty stupid. Greece starts to mock me and starts a war against me and I wipe them out... Then all other nations think I am blood thirsty...

the civs also don't research. i was in 2010 AD and the other nations said i had a weak army then attacked me with brutes when i had mechanized infantry and was building the GIANT DEATH ROBOT. They also don't expand and leave 90% of the land OPEN so even in 2050 its the same as in 3000 BC.
what difficulty are you on? the easiest?

AI is hard to get right in a strategy game since there are so many variables. I have to say that I've found diplomacy to be annoyingly difficult and generally just go out and destroy those I don't like.

My best example of "Geneyus" AI wasn't in Civ V, but in Star Trek: Birth of the Federation (I love that game). I was Romulans (as usual) and the Federation had gotten the living crap beaten out of them in a recent war; so they only had Sol left and no ships. I took pity and gave them loads of cash (shame you can't gift units), beat up the guys beating them, and formed an alliance (the strongest diplomatic treaty in the game). I did everything I could to help them and all of a sudden they declared war on me. This was out of the blue and the stupidest possible thing they could do. They had one system and no ships where as I had a dozen systems and a battle hardened armada a turn's travel away. Needless to say the battle was short and earth was reduced to a ball of rock.

This game is broken as far as the AI goes, it almost feels unfinished. I haven't played in a while and it sucks to see that this is still a problem. :/

Yeah my worst error has not been AI, although it can be annoying at times. But my error was I signed a 10 turn peace treaty with England 30 turns later I still could not declare war on them because the game said there was still a peace treaty.

It even showed the treaty as an old agreement...? I had to start a war on another continent for my tin resources. grrrr

Heh. I only played Civ IV, but I always just destroyed everything to win.

Now I feel as if I didn't really play the game.

prince. it was on NORMAL and everyone was a damn caveman. they all focused on culture and warfare, not tech.
they always declare war on me, also its cheaper to make musket men than any of the late mid evil units

Musketmen are still cannon fodder against those more expensive units. They only really shine when you can upgrade them to Riflemen.

An interesting thing about the AI is that it seems that it doesn't magically know how strong your army is unless it can see it. In one game you can have people with weak armies opening the diplomatic screen to taunt you every other turn while in the other a stronger civ is complaining about your army because you have one unit parked next to their border. It seems that using diplomacy for things like pacts of secrecy and mutual war declarations is needed to not appear like a warmonger when fighting and razing cities gives you a bad rep.

When you bring back a dead civ they may still hate you but you do get some benefits like permanent open borders and, I think, pact of cooperation. They will not declare war. And it's one less city that isn't in the enemies hand that isn't draining gold, slowing culture or creating unhappiness.

Yeah, the AI is pretty bad this time around. Sometimes they're mindlessly aggressive, other times they do nothing, even when they have a much larger army than the human player. They do stupid, suicidal moves at war and don't upgrade their troops enough. When they're somewhat losing a war they can offer you a peace treaty with hefty payments, but when they're utterly crushed they refuse to give you a nickel to save what's left of their empire. One civ attacks you, you defend yourself, and suddenly everybody else calls you "bloodthirsty" and goes hostile.

I like the system changes in Civ V, the hex grid and no stacking work great, the policies are cool, but the amount of bugs and crappiness of the AI (especially when Civ IV's AI was so much more challenging) really make this feel like an unfinished game :(

The diplomatic victory is a pain tried it a couple of days ago on normal.I was isolated in the united states so built up and was instantly attacked by a city state that i countered which concluded me taking the city state.

So finally thought it would be a good idea to see what the others are up to so sail out to europe to come across world war between the romans, arabics and the french. That had left europe and most of asia in a mess. The other two civs had been pretty much crushed by the rapidily expanding romans. All sides kept asking me to join them in war that i declined but traded and made friends with all sides.Eventually the Romans wiped out 3 civs including a large french empire and had pushed the arabs into the north west corner of europe. The Roman empire cover most of europe all of africa and asia. While mine covered all of the americas and i had only attacked 3 hostile city states.

But when i built the UN the Romans call me the warmongers even after a huge world war where they crushed 3 civs while i still havent declared war on a single civ. While the others vote for themselfs even after i have given them loads of stuff and money so can not get more than 7 votes in the UN.
