I can't believe how much they made the swine flu seem dangerous and if you still think it's dangerous it is just the regular flu with the word swine put in front of it that's all it is.

Britain still gets a little report of a few cases in somewhere like a school, but it's still nothing compared to the "Oh God, oh God, Swine Flu's the end of humanity!" as it was when it first arrived.

one appears to know one's shit :p i think you've simultaneously put down about a million arguments AND get incredibly technical AND won several long post awards. nice :D
unfortunately there IS no prize for this, bar mock "you win the internet" ones, so i suppose you can have that?
Why thank you! It's a side effect of seeking more information from reputable sources rather than just covering my eyes and blocking out the hype.

Dude, read the thread. I don't want my lovely long post to be ignored just because it's on the third page.

Everyone figured out it wasn't that bad....So the media reported on something people were interested in...

We all realised that regular flu was killing thousands more people every week, and forgot about it.

Also: What bullshit with Miss California?

I live far away from America, you see.
I believe the so called BS was Miss California's anti-homosexual response to a question posed during the Miss USA pageant. I didn't follow the response, but the reaction seemed somewhat overblown. I mean, everyone's entitled to their own opinion, and what Miss C said wasn't neo-Nazi or anything along those lines. Yet, I don't know of any outrage when Miss Teen South Carolina was asked about Americans' inability to find their country on a map, and her answer mentioned a region called "the Iraq".

Yeah, it's in Australia now. Mainly in Victoria, but there's been a few cases in Sydney too. Someone brought it in on a cruise liner.
Some school kids had it in Victoria, and when they came back from holidays, they were told that they had to have a week off school. Lol, the media made it out that the kids would be upset that they got another week off school...

I wear mine constantly. Never forget the lack of intelligence the News Media has.

It will be back eventually, don't worry.
Thats what they said about bird flu ;)

but dont worry, in a few months they will have amphibian flu.

But recently swine flu came to ireland - a few days ago two infected people were discovered. but I think they are being treated and the governement is sorta overdoing the containment, I mean, we have signs everywhere about the symptoms and what to do and stuff...But its good that in this day and age we can quickly stomp out a potential pandemic.

Swine Flu's gone... hmmm. Didn't Spanish Flu bother people for a bit then disappear only to come back and you know... kill 50 million people. Hey it might never happen again.
Nice to look on the bright side eh?

Don't worry about swine flu, or bird flu or any of those. The one you should be worried about is the upcoming pandemic of man-flu!

In Britain it's taken it about two months to infect 200 people.
I never thought it was a threat in the first place and even less so now.
It's not strong enough to kill people and not contagious enough to infect everyone.
Now Murphy's Law states I will catch it and die. Grr.

it was a overestimated version of a normal flu, just a little more powerful. those people who died because of it had a weak immune-defense (small kids, old people, people with chronical diseases).
Actually, the victims are young people with strong immune systems.

The immune system reacts so strongly that the victim get water in their lungs and drown.

Another bit of information is that WHO has decided to upgrade the flu to level 6 on their spread scale, where 6 is the highest level.
Well that's funny... Cause the only people that have died of it so far have been the young or old or people with underlying medical conditions. And the level remains at 5.

Ok, so now is the time for references, I guess.

Official WHO report (18th of May)

In section 5, it states that the majority of deaths has happened has occurred in people below the age of 60.

Furthermore, in section 8 it states that a substantial proportion of severe cases of Influenza A, which is the correct term for this flu, has occurred among young and previously healthy people.

In section 9, however, it does state that people with underlying medical conditions are also more prone to having severe cases. It is always like that with diseases, though.

In regards to the spread level, I will give you the benefit of doubt as I can't find any information on this making my earlier post based on my memory.

Just as I predicted, either the media stopped getting ratings with it, or; people realized it's not that bad. People need to stop freaking out at "epidemics", it just makes the media want to make more giant scares based on nothing.
you wont be saying that when the zombies come!!

In addition to my search for more sources, I went to Wikipedia (bad me, I know).

Search for "Swine flu" and it will lead you to the the term "Swine flu" and not the recent outbreak - another sign that the hype is on recess!

The Swine Flu was just normal flu that doctors overeacted to to try increase antibiotics sales. It's NOT real
