In fairness, both candidates have fucked up public addresses.

I really do doubt anything will change regardless who gets into office. Politicians will say anything to get elected.
Politicians are like expensive prostitutes, If you want something done it'll cost you

Maybe you could try changing the power the majority gives in government. Too bad you can't force the big parties to form some sort of coalition with lots of independent people if you had enough of them. That's the only thing I can think of since I probably don't know enough about American politics.
But I never said it was a bad thing (hence the "should be")! Voting for a person is better than voting for a party platform.

I think the idea that Politicians are entitled to mistakes is a good one. They are human after all and when was the last time they didn't have a camera in their face?

On the other hand, I DO think it's important to penalize poor communication skills. First and foremost a president or any world leader, should have the ability to inspire and motivate his people. Getting people excited about innovation or progress or even politics themselves. The idea that we can say "McCain is a bad public speaker" and move on is rubbish. The majority of his job and responsibilities has to do with clear and concise communication. If he isn't capable of that, he's not the man for the job.

The second the McCain campaign started labeling Obama as an America hater and a terrorist is when I lost all sympathy for them. Yes we know it's all lies, but still, uncool dude.

So let lose the hounds of the internets on him, I say.

Ok guys, we already know that McCain isn't a great public speaker. We don't have to pick out every single time he makes some verbal miscue and then take it as if that's what he was trying to say.
Unfortunately for McCain, public persona and ability to look good/speak well in public has been a very important part of American Politics since the invention of the television. You're basically choosing a single man to represent your entire nation... do you really want one who can't convey himself well in public broadcasts? If flubs like this are a common thing it may be a serious problem that may cost him the presidency.

I think some of you misunderstood the reason for this post...

Yes, he's not good at speaking. Anyone can see that. He says the wrong thing, then studders and stumbles and ends with base-friendly buzzwords.

But what I'm getting at is this: John Murtha never said anything about patriotism or spirituality. Representative Murtha called Western PA racist, afraid of change, and redneck.

Is John McCain saying that rednecks who are racist and afraid of change are patriotic? Is that what patriotism means to John McCain?

THAT is what I was getting at.

Honestly, living in Britain, I find it's easiest just to ignore it when the media kick up a fuss when someone in authority trips on their words. Though you know the worlds gone to pot when the best American headline in the newspapers is 'Was Palin Wrong to Wink?'

Maybe you need to work out their personality (even though they could be lying) since your head of state has a lot more executive power that may be overpowered for any head of state.

Ask McCain. Why would we lesser people, who could not possibly use the power of the President of the United States responsibly, know?

Lipstick on a pig anyone?
I thought it was stupid when they did that to Obama too. And I support Obama by the way, I just don't support taking people's words and twisting them, no matter who does it.

I'm a canadian Obama supporter. I agree with what you said but twisting words, while wrong, seems to be one of the cornerstones of politics.

Why do people worry so much about the personality of a politician and not their policies.
Well, I don't give a shit about this video, but, in general, personality is more important than policy promises and should be.

The policies a candidate promises won't necessarily get implemented just because that candidate was elected. Sometimes the candidate abandons his promises. Sometimes circumstances just prevent stuff from happening no matter how hard the candidate fights for some new law.

The candidates' personalities and backgrounds, in contrast, aren't going to fly out the window after election day. If you can figure out what they're like underneath the images they try to project, you can get a general feel for how that person is going to make political decisions. And that's much more enduring than just a handful of October promises.
