It's a mosquito hawk. Proper name is a crane fly.

Totally harmless. Grubs are a bit of a problem to lawns, mind.

It appears to be some form of Parasitic wasp. Possibly Ichneumonoidea, they're usually very large, brightly coloured and completely harmless (unless you happen to be another insect). So don't panic.

Although the wings are very much like a Crane Fly, so I s'pose it could also be a form of Crane Fly.

Edit: I don't suppose there's a chance it's still there for a clearer picture?
The legs don't seem right for it to be Ichneumonidae, they seem longer and more angular.
That is very true, although with the number of variations there are it's a possibility.

However, could it be something like this?

That is the closest I can find without a clearer picture from the OP.

It has similar body shape, the OP's insect appears to have crane fly like legs and the colours are fairly similar from what I can make out.

I'm obviously no expert in zoology, but I'd say it's a lizard.
This guy has it, definitely [sub][sub]not[/sub][/sub] a lizard.

But yeah, it looks like a large Crane fly, aka a Daddy Long Legs.

Completely harmless, I'd say.

EDIT: Yeah, I get it, it's not called a freaking Daddy long legs. I just know a bunch of people who call it that where I live, okay?

We have something called Tree Wasp in Norway. It's a VERY big Wasp with a huge stinger at it's butt. It might be one of those, tho it doesn't really look like one =3.
Isn't that stingery thing actually an ovipositor? Then again I have some kind of beef with biology, maybe I mixed it up with another kind of wasp.

OT: Did it have a health bar? Because then it has probably come from Australia to haunt you in your sleep.

Looks like a giant mosquito like many have already pointed out. But I'll add: we have something like that around here and they aren't dangerous and don't bite unlike their smaller cousins, as far as I know anyway. Just a bit unpleasantly looking until you get used to them.

I go with crane fly. Male since they're sorta like sea horses in that they're responsible for the managing of the egg laying. I've never seen one so brightly colored before. But I also live in Washington State. They all look a bland brown.

Not a stinger, they just use it to inject eggs into grass blades. Which is why a crane fly is a hazard to a person's lawn. So if you really want an excuse to not mow via letting the lawn die, let that little guy go and hope he finds lots of female crane flies to get eggs from and deposit into the grass for the larvae to eat. I haven't seen a lot this year, so my lawn will not die. Too bad.

Holy crap, did someone just play Cocoon of Evolution and speed up their turns? Seriously, that is one nasty insect...

Otherwise, I have no idea what it is, but it looks really freaky. Then again, so do all insects...

Absolutely terrifying is what that is.

Seriously, I'd move to another country if I saw that thing in my room.

Also, it looks like a gigantic mosquito.

Purge it with salt, kill it with fire!

Kill it, burn it, purge it with salt!

Creepy little bugger, in my personal opinion...
