What to you want from Red Alert 4?

-Base building: If they do go a RA4 route then they might pull off the same crap where they take out base building and it would make me a sad panda.

-Something that closely resembles the old Ore mining system. I understand that EA was trying to find a way to regulate the flow of income but by damn was it boring.

-Unit design that more closely resembles a cross between RA1 and RA2. I loved the gritty feel of the RA2 units in particular which made it alot more believable despite some of the things some of those units could pull. In RA3 they were just plain wacky and comical in design. I have no problem with a unit that shoots bears at you, but the least you can do is make it look less cartoony/comical and something more gritty and believable.

-Squads like in C&C3. I really did miss that and it made C&C4 alot cooler that way.

-Some appropriate scale: Not many games get it right, but most of them have a semblance of trying. For once i would very much like to see a Command and Conquer game is properly scaled where each infantry unit is the appropriate size relative to a tank, a building(where the infantry is actually the size of a proper door for once) etc etc. Kind of like in Act of War.

That is pretty much the basics of what I want really.

Several things, they can either go back to the style of RA1, where it still had some its what-if experimental technology but still maintain the feel and grittiness of the first game, or it can be a balanced game with a good storyline to it.

And this.

Seriously, get off your high horse. It's a fucking game. I could argue that by desiring a realistic simulation you're cheapening what actually goes on by mercilessly parodying it in a close reconstruction but one without any of the dangers or psychological torture. At least RA3 didn't pretend to be close to that but just said "Fuck it, let's go nuts."
Isnt that the overland battleship from supcom? Anway yeah I agree with this guy.

OT: id like another RA1. I know thats not going to happen but I enjoyed that game quite a bit. Havent played the sequels though

Heck, just add more to the current cast and you have a game I would keep playing for a good long time. A Map editor would be nice too. I love Red Alert 3.

More Tim Curry. Maybe he should play multiple characters.
Red Alert III had a map editor. :)
Pardon my poor wording.

"A better map editor."

I noticed that too. It's the UEF mobile factory. I can't remember the name off-hand, but it's one of the experimental units.

Back on topic...

I would like RA4 to take itself a little more seriously. I thought RA2 was just 'cartoony' enough to be fun without going too overboard. I have yet to buy RA3 because it seems to me like EA made a mockery of it and the whole C&C franchise at the same time.

Yuri rises to power within the Soviet Union. He then launches a psychic attack on the Allies, gaining control of most of their leaders. Suddenly, without warning, a shadow army comes out of nowhere, demolishing Yuri's primary psychic weapons - and, unfortunately, killing the mind-controlled Allied leaders. The leader of this faction is a former adviser to Stalin known only as... Kane. Tanya becomes de facto leader of the allies.

Near the end, Yuri seizes control of the Psionic Decimator, planning to wipe out most of the world's population. Kane and Tanya form an alliance to capture the Soviet time machine, go back in time, and kill Yuri before he can emerge. Cleverly, Kane also eliminates Alexander Romanov. The events of Red Alert 2 and 3 are written out of history. Einstein is restored. Kane disappears.

One side effect of the time reversion is to attract the attention of the Scrin, who send a Tiberium meteorite to Earth, landing in Rome in 1995...

And the entire Command & Conquer series is revealed to be a Stable Time Loop.
That is a idea of pure brilliance but I don't think realistically it will happen, but you could create a mod for it.

Heh, fair enough. What didn't you like about it though?
I dunno, I guess I just felt it didn't have all the things I wanted from it.
I'm very picky about my map editors.

Still, that isn't really essential. All I really want is more of the same with some more hammy acting. Wonderful stuff. :)

I must be like one of 3 people in the world who loved every bit of RA3. I liked the units, the gameplay, the wacky setting and storyline full of in-jokes and references, the graphics that manage to look better than the ones in C&C4, the absolutely brilliant voice acting for every single unit, the characters, the music... list goes on.

What I would wish for RA4 would be more traditional TD/RA1/TS-esque CGI cutscenes, old resource collection mechanics, Tim Curry, no persistent online requirement and... well, that's it.

Also, C&C4 was a flawed game, but it did one thing right - for the first time in the series the multiplayer actually worked properly from day one.

- A mix between RA1 and RA2. Thus a little campy but a good dark tale also.

- A link between the RA series and Tiberium series in the story. Even if it is a short cameo of Kane.

- Bring back the old units, the pride and true. Mammoth tanks. Light, medium, Heavy tanks. Artillery. Radar Jammers. MAD TANKS (<- YES PLEASE). Etc.

- No super weapons

- No super units

- Skirmish mode

- Basebuilding with the building tab.

- the commando. seriously. he needs to return again since he's awesome.

I agree with that... mostly. I've been replaying RA2 lately, and i have to say - the overall level of gritiness there looks better than graphics of RA3. In RA3 they look way too cartoony. But overall campiness of RA3 looks not worse than semi-ridiculous approach of RA2 - each is as good as the other.

Now, what i would like. First, take to the stars. Yes, you heard me - Red Alert IN SPACE! The Soviets got to the Moon in second game's addon, and almost got there in third one. So just make a game about Cherdenko and Krukov escaping the cryo-prison in the year 2020, taking over a few space colonies, and waging war on Allies. They could also add campy 60s-style alien invaders as a third faction (the Japanese didn't really work out, too ridiculously advanced).

Second, take a look at some Soviet propaganda - films, various pictures, architectural styles, and whatnot - of that era. Better yet, hire some actual Russians to get the perfect retrofuturist feel. Designs of buldings in RA3 were worse than in RA2, designs of units - actually a bit closer to the right feel. But in either case, there's still way to go.

Third, do the scale right this time. In RA2 infantry units were too big (due to pixelart limitations), and in RA3 naval/air units were too small.

Fourth, the gameplay needs to be more grandiose. Have squads of infantry (and conscript squads must still cost only $100!). Have carpet-bombings and artillery barrages. Have big ore fields (ore on the surface is not at all implausible on alien worlds), because mines in RA3 sucked. Or maybe some kind of alternate solution, but not mines. Mines sucked.

Fifth, NO ONLINE DRM. I cannot stress that enough.

Sixth, BEARS MOUNTABLE BY INFANTRY. Even more important than the fifth point. The Allies can have ATVs.

Seventh, have Kane appear somewhere as a janitor.

I hope some random guy on the internet takes time to read this. Whoever you are, thank you {:)

what? no! RA universe should take a little break for now, it's general's time to shine from the grave besides RA3 did suck a little and I was highly disappoint on the graphics and cinematic sequences, I'm not a fucking 13 year-old again if I want porn (or at least something very seductive) I will for Google it

I think Ra3 did a pretty good job with all the wonky character acting. Tim Curry, George Tekai, Peter Stormare...hehe!
And then, in Uprising, Malcolm McDowell.
To quote TvTropes, they seem to be trying to make some kind of Ham singularity.

It won't happen, I'm pretty sure that they said they were gonna lay off most/all of EALA.
