Female character. Not for the reason you're thinking (weirdos) that's just added benefit (didn't say I wasn't). I've been raised by and around women. I think I've lived with three men, but I basically got to hear all the anti-man talk from a young woman, and I can relate to a woman a lot more easily than a man at this point. I really wish I could phrase that differently...

But, yeah, I relate to the female character better. And, I've said it before and I'll say it again, if I'm going to be watching an ass for a whole game might as well make it a nice one.

Definitely too specific, but I prefer the heartless or crazed assassin with a mission. People like Kratos from GOW, Minsc from BG2, Niko from GTA IV, Mordin from ME2, etc. Actually, assassins in general are the most interesting characters in any game, but I find the ones that are just senseless or purposeless annoying after a while.

I guess it relates to myself a fair bit. Most people find me disturbing in that I don't consider murder to be a serious crime.

I don't usually have one type of character I gravitate to, it sort of changes depending on the game. For fighters I usually play around, for situations where characters basically serve as skins.

I don't know, I have no realy discernable way of choosing. Like for Left 4 Dead, I chose Zoe. For Mario Kart Wii I chose Baby Peach.

OK, I guess I usually pick females... not sure why.

The quiet intelligent type with alot of inner strength, not too dissimilar to how I try to be myself. Does not have to be the best fighter in the world, and in fact rarely ever is. Its almost always a female character, but there are a handful of exceptions to the rule (Auron, FFX).

My favorite characters both in and outside of gaming tend to be effeminate men with at least a couple of screws loose. Other than that, I gravitate towards quiet, androgynous girls.

Hell yes, Arakune! I love that guy!

We're referring to fighting games, right? I usually alternate between the really weird, strangely designed characters with unusual play styles and the faster characters that still have a bit of attack power to back them up.
It was broad, but I mainly meant fighting games. Also, Arakune is 200% amazing. The first time I played as him, I chose for him to be green. I was fighting as Flubber.

I like the smart villains. The ones who actually think about their actions beyond evil or the ones who have a good reason for being evil. My favorite example is John Henry Eden from Fallout 3. He's a smooth-talking, likable person but is secretly planning to kill almost everyone in the wasteland, but actually has a good reason to do so.
Eden's evil isn't exactly a "secret". Three Dog's wise to him probably due to the Brotherhood cluing him in ("hey nifty America", etc.), he just doesn't see fit to reveal the important details until after "The Waters of Life". Although a certain prisoner in Raven Rock cracks me the fuck up every single time I play through..."They're not who they say they are, get out while you can, before they get you too!"

On-topic, the characters I like most are the ones whose personalities are left to me to assign for myself. My Bethesda RPG characters, for example, and other silent-protagonist with a character-creation screen types.

Arakune is indeed made of win. And insects.

Generally, the character who has the giant weapons, heavy armor and slow attacks. Failing that, the all-rounder.

Usually the "support" characters.

The Engineer from TF2, Tails from Sonic, Luigi, Genis from Tales of Symphonia, etc.

One of two characters get me;

The cutesy type like say, Taokaka whom I solely use in Blazblue and the intellectual type like say...well I can't really think of one in particular but that's the other type I like best.

Any character that looks non human. Seriously the less human a character looks the more I empathize. Hence why I love The Arbiter (like... more than a friend) and Wrex and Garrus from Mass Effect.

Personality wise I quite like blunt smart asses who wise crack and aren't afraid to speak their minds and of whom can be tough as well as show signs of sensitivity.
But I also like straight faced honor bound noble types who do things that are right and justified and do so in a no nonsense kind of manner.

So I'm kind of inconsistent.

The one that looks like a master planner or the one with the sword ... or the one that looks most Asian.

personality wise i usually likse the either super sarcastic/smartass guy, or alot of time the beast guy who helps the team out.

so most of the time i like cliche characters..but thats kinda because i dont get annoyed at all like most people do about types of characters..so regardless i like usually those kind of cliche characters.

i usually hate the silent protagonists...usually...its just annoying when my character does fucking nothing story/dialogue wise, its such a gamebreaker, fuck that.

for fighting games, i prefer anything to deal with range, idk why i just dont like characters who have to get up close to do their combos. thats usually why in mortal kombat i was always raiden. and in street fighter i was either ryu or sagat.

i didn't like the other fighting games (tekken, soul calibur,etc..)so i dont know who i would use among those...

I have two types of characters to which I am almost always attracted. The first type is those that are firmly chaotic neutral, the quirky, ever-so-slightly unhinged, morally ambiguous individual that does what they want, when they want, to whom they want for little to no reason, yet will still help others when they truly need it (which perhaps explains my current obssession with the entire cast of Touhou, Marisa especially).

The second type I find appealing is almost the exact opposite; the stylish, controlling, always composed bastard that knows what they want and will do anything to achieve it, regardless of the consequences to others, yet still finds time to be polite and considerate in their daily proceedings. Unfortunately however, I haven't actually had the opportunity to play as someone like that ("evil" options in RPGs are almost inevitably thugs and "for the lulz" types).
