Close quarters (in most any game) is my preference. I'll take a ranged class in a pinch but I want it to be able to skirmish (not any of that stand still and blast people with doom nonsense). Most commonly this leads me right into the melee dps class (Champion in LOTRO, Rogue in WOW, Witch Hunter in WAR), and very occasionally an actual tank class (I liked the Guardian in LOTRO - it worked well there), though tanks generally seem to get the short end in the PVP side of things in MMO's. The exception is the Knight of the Blazing Sun/Chosen in WAR as they essentially represent waht I believe tanks ought to be. Not enough damage to kill most things on their own but far to lethal to ignore, they actually have enough health and defensive capability to ensure that nothing will best them in an outright brawl without a lot of extinuating circumstances. I have to say, so long as I have a good healer watching over me in WAR I'm fairly certain my Knight may as well be invincible - or close enough that it doesn't really matter much anyway.

I like to do everything, i dont like to miss out on anything.
On Oblivion, i wanted to be able to mix magic with combat hence my choice of a High Elf, but a lot of RPG's i've played dont really give you as much choice as Oblivion does with playing styles.
Way back when i played Runescape, i started as a range character but then got all my levels up to between 65-80 more magically so though.
I like to be a bit of a sneaky ar'tard if i can because i feel braver to shoot things from a distance and when they cant see me.

RPGs are for pussies.

And what do you like to do? Shoot things with guns all day?
No, I like to build and design cities and create a thriving civilization. Pussy.
So, you like the Role of the god/city planner as the one you Play as in your Game?

For some reason I always end up choosing the mage or anything related to it. I just like seeing flashy moves, and seeing my MP bar go down.

When I first play an RPG, I usually pick a basic brute warrior type build, since those are usually the simplest. Later on, I usually switch over to a more agile/stealthy type.
same here although i would end up going for magic users....

it depends on the game really but magic is prefered for the moment

And don't you forget it! Unless we are talking about that horrid game "Orcs and Elves" which was for phones and then ported to the DS for no real reason whatsoever.

Alternate spell users?

You know, the indirect "damage" classes with curses or summons. Has some offensive spells, but much weaker then that of elementalists?

Yeah, that one.

I am the lord of this land! Fight me and your death will be terriablly painful!
Crap he's comeing! Fireball, fireball, fireball, he's almost in range! Kill faster! Fireball, fireball, fireball he's here! Invisability! Ok, now sneak out of range... good, now. Fireball!

On topic I either pick a damage inducing mage or a half magic half might class, like a paladian. Love me some paladians!

Glass cannon is my thing. Assassins in Guild Wars for example (I make one mean split ganker in GvG)

Ahhh, you said elementalist and not mage!
Which leads to me believe you play a Mesmer, right? Or perhaps a Necromancer? (if this doesn't make sense to you, think nothing of it)

I usually pick an offesive melee warrior with a heart of gold and the ability to use good healing spells.
