I would be in Military Intelligence, likely an analyst. The reason is simple - I already JOINED the military and went to war and was an analyst.

In the United States, the draft has been abolished, perhaps the one bit of Vietnam-related fallout that the pro-war influences didn't manage to wiggle their way out of in the long run.

That said, I'm a bit of a peacenik who doesn't believe in taking another person's life for any reason, even political. I'd be a lousy frontliner, but perhaps they could put me to work as a medic or a mechanic.

I would never be a soldier as I am already a sailor. Engineering officer to be precise. It was more or less decided after I went to my Naval Officer's Assessment Board and during our official dinner when I yelled out "I'm givin' 'er all she's got Captain!"

probably the guy with glasses and a book that goes absolutely fucking nuts with a machine gun when excrement hits spinning blades meant to cool you off.

I'd probably not be at the front lines, considering that my height of 2 metres spells "BOOM, HEADSHOT!" like you wouldn't know it. I'd be rather useless at the front anyways since I'm not all that athletic and my glasses would get the feck in the way. Something behind the lines like medic, scientist or with intelligence would be my thing, if I could choose.

I'd pick the Giant Robot Brigade, especially if Gundams and/or Metal Gear(!?) are involved.

Now, I can most likely say that since my country (US of A) doesn't have a draft, having one implemented would cover mass media attention for months.
Using that as an advanced warning, I'd enlist in the Air Firce and take up a technical position that doesn't involve frontline combat. A fat guy like me might be bigger, but that doesn't mean I can take any more bullets than the next guy...

Sniper with a bolt action (Hitting your target slowly is better than being able to miss quickly [semi-auto]), but only if I make it through Sniper School, otherwise a grunt with a weapon that has full auto and semi and an ACOG. (Getting this through Dragon Rising, plus some good ole fashioned research since I'm thinking of joining anyway).
If you mean personality, focused, quiet, and a tad shakey (the first two are me, and I'm guessing seeing people get holes put in them through a scope would give you a bit of a problem, it happens to a lot of snipers IRL)
