Sephiroth is the main antagonist of Final Fantasy 7. He's a flagship villain for Square-Enix, and shows up often on peoples favorite villain lists. At the time, this event in a game was totally unheard of. A main character so beloved being killed is one of the prime reasons why Sephiroth was thrown into infamy for over a decade as a badass, and a true villain.
