I usually keep any computer I'm using at 30% main volume, and then adjust the volume of the speakers as I need it. On my laptop, my headphones are about 80%, but it's hard to tell due to the nature of my headphone's volume control. I think my desktop speakers hover around 30%, as well.

Without headphones my speakers are terrible. So terrible, a friend of mine couldn't hear the difference between Ace Of Spades and a MW2 sniping video on youtube, that's how shitty they are. It's literally just noise.
