According to wikipedia:
-the calculator
-the gyroscope
-the metric system
-motherfucking face transplants!

So next time you're getting a face transplant with help from a machine guided by gyroscopes and the surgeon uses a calculator to see if he can type out "boobies" on it,you can thank France!

Britain - Modern Society, and to be honest everything. America just commercialised it, for example you Yanks probably think Edison invented the TV, when it was really the Scotsman John Logie Baird, the Telephone was also invented by a Scot, Alexander Graham Bell yanks say it was invented in America when it was actually created in Edinburgh, penicillin was invented by a Brit too. The Ipod was also by a Brit but I don't remember who.

Oh and also the internet was invented by an Englishman.

Also to add to America's list: GPS, Nuclear Weapons, THE AIRPLANE, Suppressors (sometimes referred to incorrectly as "silencers"), Liquid Fueled Rockets, Digital Computers, Microwave Ovens, Supersonic Aircraft, The Laser, The Internet,

and the list goes on.

@jigilojoe

Actually, the WORLD WIDE WEB was invented by an Englishman (Tim Berners Lee). The internet was originally invented by DARPA as a way of sending data quickly between commanders in the field. It was then adopted by the commercial sector and evolved into the World Wide Web.

We also came up with the Automatic transmission
Actually, I think you'll find that that was invented in Hungary by Laszlo Biro, the same guy who invented the ball-point pen. http://www.nndb.com/people/087/000166586/

-The discovery of aluminium.

Cant be a surprise that one of the most heavy drinking countries in the world invented both insulin, antabus and yeast?
And the buglar alarm.. which sadly got stolen.
And congrats with your 1000th'post

Pretty simple, what invention, world changing, trivial, what-have-you, was invented in the country you call home?

I'll go first.

America- Airplane, Machinegun, bifocals, tumbler lock (I believe), and the telephone.

EDIT: LISTS DON'T COUNT SLACKERS!!!
germany invented the machinegun during the first world war

Canada - Winter tires
No, the first machinegun was the American made Model 1862 Gatling gun.
The first self powered machinegun was the Maxim gun, made by an American born Englishman.
