My favorite movie is Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, a comedy about two minor characters in Hamlet as they try to figure out what's going on, who they are, and why they are involved. I hadn't seen/read Hamlet when I first saw this movie, so I needed to have some of the humor explained to me, but it was still hilarious. The original play of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead is even better, except that the movie has Tim Roth, and Tim Roth is the best thing. Tim Roth Tim Roth Tim Roth.

Do you have a source for that? Not that I doubt you, it's just I'd like to be sure.
i knew someone would ask the credibility of me writing true story so i have prepared a credible source for this scenario

So instead of sating my curiosity, you decide to be vulgar for no discernible reason.
Thanks for that.

One of my favorite movies of all time, that I recently watched was American History X.

The little brother of a reformed Neo nazi, who is a neo nazi himself, learns what happened to his older brother in Jail.

It's a very uplifting movie once you watch it all.

A Knight's Tale.
One of my favorite movies of all time. Heath Ledger is a knight's squire who, after said knight dies, takes a shot at replacing said knight (even though this is fairly likely to get everyone killed because you have to be a noble to be a knight). Long story short and minus spoilers, it's a fun and ever so slightly emotional journey that, while fairly traditional in how it plays out, is nonetheless very well done. Also, people's trumpets inexplicably play Queen, and it is awesome.

EDIT: Because I can't stand to say just one movie, there's also Ip Man, Ip Man 2, and The Legend is Born: Ip Man. All of them are very well done movies based on the life of Yip Man, a grandmaster of Wing Chun and one of Bruce Lee's teachers. They do an excellent job of realistically portraying the Wing Chun style and martial arts in general, while also having a great story to each of them. They are a bit vaguely insulting to the Japanese and British, as they are villains in the tales due to the things they did to China and the Chinese, but it isn't so much so that it is unenjoyable or anything. And really, they had a bit of reason to be insulting, what with the invading and racism they experienced.

Best film I've seen in recent months: The Cabin in the Woods. Can't really say much about it without spoilers, but it's a horror movie by Joss Whedon that plays around with tropes of the genre.

Probably A Serbian Film, just because rape interests me and they filmed it well.
You liked it because...rape? Yeeeesh, you have a stronger stomach than I do.

Drive.

There's a guy. He drives. Bad stuff goes down. There's not much talking in it, and it works better as a silent movie than The Artist did in my opinion, but maybe that's just because crime.

EDIT: I forgot one!

LA Confidential. It's awesome, a neo-noire thriller with great acting, great plot and also fun to play 'name that actor!' with.

I?m going to be really clichéd here and say The Shawshank Redemption. I just really like the character development and relationship between the two main characters, Red and Andy, and it has an engaging narrative that finally culminates with a lovely finale.

Honourable mentions go to Terminator 2 (best action film, IMO), American History X (very powerful drama that actually portrayed its racist main character as sympathetic with humanity), Crank (I must?ve watched it, like, seven times and it?s still hilarious), and the Toy Story trilogy (this is how you make animated film for both kids and adults).

My all time favourite movie:
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans.

Moviebob reviewed it on here, and there really is not much I could add to what he said.
It's a masterpiece in every conceivable way.
Werner Herzog directed a masterpiece, borrowing from film noir and giving it his own unique touch.

Nicholas Cage as a drug-addicted cop is spot on, especially the way he acts out his crazy drug episodes.

Eva Mendez as a prostitute who seems to be sticking with Cage's character, mostly because he can provide her with drugs, but also genuinely cares about him.
I gotta say, the relationship between Mendez and Cage is so well done, so well written, acted and filmed, it really seems real at times.

And of course, there is an overarching crime to be solved, which happens in a very unconventional way, fitting for the master of the obscure that is Werner Herzog.

The love I feel for that movie is hard to convey in words.

If it were a woman, I would marry it.

28 Days Later.
Pretty typical zombie film, except that it's actually a bit scary (or at least tension building), stylish but realistic, got a fantastic soundtrack, kind of breaks the fourth wall, and has a variety of philosophical and moral undertones.

Also, both the main[footnote]not the laboratory prologue[/footnote] opening and climactic sequences are both among my favourite scenes in film, ever. The opening is mostly completely silent (which is eerie as fuck), and the closing was what this track was scored to:

Nuff said!

PS. It features the phrase "THE END IS EXTREMELY FUCKING NIGH" graffitied on the wall of a church.
PPS. It probably inspired Left 4 Dead and various other 'Infected' style zombie media
PPPS. It contains what I think is possibly the second finest example of effective swearing that I can think of (The first being Malcom Tucker) by Cpl Mitchell

Equilibrium.

One of my favourite Sci-Fi movies of all time. Excellent characters and plot and the fight scenes are some of the greatest I have ever seen. Ever.

I also have to agree with Tropicaz on 'The Prestige'. That was another trully brilliant movie. Two magicians who after a bitter falling out try to out-do the other in their tricks while keeping their 'prestige'.

Tangled. It really took me by surprise because it was a "family" movie, but anyone who isn't the antichrist can and most likely will enjoy it. Anyway, it's a reimagining of Rapunzel, with catchy songs, a ton of hilarious and memorable one-liners, and a great story. Check it out if you like feeling good, being alive (edit: not a threat), etc.

The Avengers

It's like the Transformers movies with %100 less angst, stupidity, military-pandering, shitty acting, and bad screenwriting.

So basically, just the cool explosive scenes that the Transformers movies should be about.

He explained in the film why he didn't tell his parents. It's a weak reason, sure, but he's supposed to be like 10 years old so logic isn't going to factor in too much.

OT: Best movie I saw recently? Well The Scorpion King 3 is that. I'm not going to give anything away, but I can't remember a more enjoyable movie-going experience.
Okay, I see praise for this movie everywhere. Is it really that good, or is it an ironic praise?
I know that I and a few others genuinely love watching it. So the praise is real coming from us.
