Best film I have seen as of late is probably the Arnie Total Recall.

Why? Good action, 3-titted lady and some of the best lines in movie history... Ever... Of all time...

I'm having a hard time choosing between Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless mind and the Grey. They might not be the BEST films, but they are the only ones that managed to make me feel with the characters.

Specially The Grey. I was very skeptical because I thought it would've been a basic humans vs nature thing, but the character development is just superb. I mean the growth of Liam Nielsen's character just stunned me.

Probably A Serbian Film, just because rape interests me and they filmed it well.

If not that, Let the Right One In (The original and best, French) because the love story was cute <3
What do you mean by French? There is the Swedish original and then the American remake.

Whoops! You are correct.

In my defense, I had been watching a French horror movie at the time of writing that comment :p
I suppose I can let you off then, however you shouldn't ever make a mistake with that film again! Under pain of chickening and frying!

You liked it because...rape? Yeeeesh, you have a stronger stomach than I do.

Drive.

There's a guy. He drives. Bad stuff goes down. There's not much talking in it, and it works better as a silent movie than The Artist did in my opinion, but maybe that's just because crime.

EDIT: I forgot one!

LA Confidential. It's awesome, a neo-noire thriller with great acting, great plot and also fun to play 'name that actor!' with.
Mhm. Rape is a fascinating mixture of powerfully erotic and totally repugnant. You can never predict your reaction to seeing it, but you know it'll be extreme.

Call it sexual, morbid curiosity :p
Rape is actually one of the few things nowadays that actually disturbs me. I've been practically desensitized to almost everything else at this point, but rape continuosly disturbs and disgusts me... it made watching A Serbian Film quite difficult for me.

Tangled. It really took me by surprise because it was a "family" movie, but anyone who isn't the antichrist can and most likely will enjoy it. Anyway, it's a reimagining of Rapunzel, with catchy songs, a ton of hilarious and memorable one-liners, and a great story. Check it out if you like feeling good, being alive (edit: not a threat), etc.
One of the most tightly written scripts I've ever seen. It's constantly on the ball and never wastes your time with filler scenes.

This movie took me by surprise, too, mainly because the marketing made it look like it was going to be just another snarky, popculture referencing Shrek film.

The only bad thing I can say about Tangled is that the chameleon sidekick was a waste of space and adds nothing to the movie at all. Other than that, this movie is practically perfect in what it tries to accomplish.

If I had to pick just one: The Avengers.

Awesome action sequences, great character interactions, and an interesting story. That's all I got.

The Blues Brothers. Jake and Elwood Blues, a pair of blues musicians/criminals attempt to raise $5000 dollars in three days to prevent the closure of the orphanage where they were raised. And they have to do it "honestly". It's hilarious, it has some of the best car chase scenes ever, it's got some pretty good music and it's just all around awesome. Easily my favorite movie.

Blade Runner. For sure. When I saw this film, absolutely everything about it blew me away. Deckard(Harrison Ford) - a Blade Runner, an authority that hunts down rogue AI - has to hunt down several criminal androids hiding amongst mankind in a dystopia-noire, overcrowded Earth. Questions start to pop up - is killing androids moral? What about an android makes them less than a man? The film just gets more and more intense and thought-provoking as it goes on, with stellar acting by the likes of Rutger Hauer and Ford, a hazy, dreamy electro-jazz soundtrack accenting the neon lights and misty marketplaces of Earth's future, and the best end speech of all time.

"I've... seen things, you people wouldn't believe..."

Patlabor 1 [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patlabor:_The_Movie]. Instead of the usual stuff you see out of mecha animes involving gigantic space battles and big bad aliens, this particular manga sets up a mystery involving the mechas, which aren't military vehicles, and spends three quarters of the movie trying to figure out what the hell is going on. This may be a bit slow paced for most anime fans, but I didn't get bored, I just let the story unfold, and found it to be intelligent and missing a lot of what can make even popular Japanime really cheesy. The characters are also not suffering from the usual slew of emotional problems which are supposed to substitute for personality.

Second place: Slumdog Millionare [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slumdog_Millionaire]. Again, it's one of those movies that unfolds somewhat slowly, but I found it made the film interesting rather than boring. Where I couldn't get through the first two scenes of The Dark Knight, I watched this movie instead and liked it.

Oldboy

Man gets kidnapped...mannapped?....taken? Well, you get what I'm saying. He get thrown into a very nice room without explanation and is kept there....for 15 years. During those years, he gets framed for the murder of his wife, trains himself to get into shape to get revenge, and makes a small hole that leads outside. Then, he is just....set free. The rest of the movie he tries to find the person who did this to him. Then, whole movie comes to a close in the biggest mindfuck I have ever had the pleasure of feeling. A word of advice: don't do things to people for you never know how they will react to it.
