Preaching freedom, liberty and justice on every possible occasion, yet practicing corruption, racism, sexism, torture, illegal wars, greed, a class system etc. etc. etc. right across the country.

Also being so terribly afraid of socialism, despite the fact that if it were properly put into practice it would reflect the aforementioned virtues of freedom, liberty, justice etc.
Perfect laissez-faire is essentially like perfect socialism except people own stuff.

In recent history it's pretty simple: the Iraq war. A horrible and pointless war with millions of deaths and that only costs a lot of money. But I do not know enough about American history to say what was the biggest screw/up they ever made.

Breaking away from the British empire of course :p
This.

Also renouncing the 'U' which I have never understood. Why America? What did it do to deserve to be shunned.
Well I can tell that you are British and haven't studied the reasons for our seperation. The British Parliament was, at that point, corrupt and was not representing the colonies fairly.
Well I can tell that you are American and dont understand the concept of 'a joke'. Although from a purely selfish POV my statement still stands, I mean come on, just imagine, 25% of the worlds land surface, probably more with the industrial capacity of the americas, crushed under our iron boo...er, I mean benevolently ruled for the greater good of all humanity :3

I actually think America is more a daughter that England had with 13 of its colonies, and England an abusive mother that, despite not wanting to be as tyranical as she was in our life, we actually took alot of her doctrines and philosphy, and have sleazed our way to the top, much to the disdain to england, and alot of non-American, people form english speaking people on this site.
"Mom, you're an evil *****! I hate you! I hate you! I'm leaving and never coming back!"
"Yes, thats right, leave...you think you can escape? Wait until you've spent a bit of time in the real world...with each passing day you will slowly turn into everything you hate about me"
"Never! I hate you!"
"Good, good! You see! It's happening already...give in to your hatred, come to the dark side..."
"GRAAAAARRGH! Fuck you Mom!" *slams door*
*evil laughter*

The Western Expansion. Period. If you say otherwise, you are wrong. I can't think of any other American action that killed more innocent people for a more worthless reason (greed).

Bush is NOTHING compared to the Western Expansion. Nothing, I tell you!
This. Seriously.
I love the "Electing King George the Murderous" (was that really an election the first time?) or "Electing Obama the Incompetent" (I couldn't bring myself to vote for McCain but I'm having SERIOUS doubts about Obama) rants. Really myopic. Ok, so because you're liberal/conservative you're going to take a swipe at the latest opposition prez and call that our biggest mistake?
Let's see, we have a war against British imperialism so we can have freedom for everyone (well, white male landowners at the time) and then go for blatant imperialism ourselves. Every other mistake America has made since then has it's roots in that.

It's not a competition, I was just adding some more humour :), although your play idea intrigues me...

People own stuff in socialism too.

Communism? No. Socialism? Yes--there is private property.
There is "Socialism" and "The Socialism". Which one are you referring again?

It would have to be a neck-a-neck tie between George Bush, Fox News, Proposition 8 in California and Televangelism. At least in my less than humble opinion.

I hate to be the guy to do this, but I seriously believe it.

Electing George W. Bush into office.
Close but the worst was doing it again.
Whats the W stand for again? Ive been calling him wanker for so long I don't even know what its supposed to be.
But yeah, electing him twice was absolutely STUPID.
